Second yellow was silly as there was plenty of cover but took one for the team for for his first and generally played well.

Never been a massive fan but lets face it the lad had a very hard act to follow. Klopp rates Henderson very highly so just maybe it is time to trust his judgement instead of getting on the lads back. He is an integral part of the team and that team got to the CL final last year and is currently chasing a team that simply buy results and make the fair play rules look a complete mockery.Henderson has obviously been given a job to do by Klopp and generally speaking it must be working when you consider that we our unbeaten this season in 13 Premiership games. Henderson came on as a sub in the Napoli game that we lost but he wasn't to blame for an awful team performance. He didn't play in the Red Star game that we lost and he may just have made the difference. He certainly made the difference when we beat PSG 3-2 !!!

When we very nearly won the league Henderson played a massive part. His very unfortunate sending off against City may have ultimately cost us the league. Henderson's contribution had been immense and anybody that fails to recognise how much we missed him in the last three games of that title challenging season is an idiot.

A good captain :-

1. Leads by example in terms of play on the field and has a ruthless streak when needed- not just being a nice clean cut guy off it

2. Inspires others around him to be at their best and improve their level of performance or at least their commitment

3. When the proverbial hits the fan in a game takes it by the scruff of the neck and/or goes out on his shield

Name the games where Hendo has done any of these - you wont need too many fingers...

Then take a look at the Hughes, Sounesses, Dalglishes, Gerrards etc of the world.

I know exactly what you are saying and I'm as guilty as anybody for criticising Henderson in the past. I fully expected VVD to be given the armband as he certainly has the qualities you list in abundance. The fact that Klopp has stuck with Henderson and Miller surely must tell us something. Klopp is loyal to his players and doesn't quickly throw them on the scrapheap when things aren't going well. Time for us all to get behind the lad. Whatever happened to YNWA ???

Outside of England the captain's armband doesn't have the same importance. If you're a leader you don't need to wear a piece of cloth round your arm to take responsibility. You'll just do it. You don't win much if you only have one leader. The captaincy is predominately symbolic and in practice just means you have more media work to do.

No problem with Henderson being captain even if he's likely to see less and less football over the coming seasons.

Just a few fairly decent Captains among these  :buttrock
Emlyn Hughes
Phil Thompson
Souness
Hansen
Dalglish
Rush
Barnes
Fowler
Hyppia
Gerrard
....
Hendo

Spot the odd one out...

I would take Ronnie Whelan over Hendo any day of the week, and twice on match day

I've never said he should be thrown anywhere.. More than useful squad player is where he fits in for me.

I'd like to see Gini, Fab and Keita as our main middle trio eventually.
I just don't see the necessary qualities to be captain..

Henderson has kept the captains armband because Klopp believes he has the qualities to be his skipper - anytime you are at the match there is one voice you can hear screaming away encouraging , bollocking , screaming for the ball or always available- that’s Henderson - he never hides away , he always get involved and he spends the whole match encouraging the team - i surprised when the game finishes he still has a voice. He will play when fit because Klopp sees him as his general - Fabinho May look a bit “flashier” as a player but he has plenty of times been a liability. A long way for Fabinho to go yet.

It’s quite sad that we win , continue the unbeaten run that Henderson is clearly a part of and instead of giving out praise people just look to point fingers

So yep let’s point fingers at our club captain - captain of a club unbeaten in the league but still not good enough for some

The problem Henderson has got is that is he is an average footballer, he's not a bad player but he lacks the genuine quality of a Gerrard, Souness, McMahon, Molby, Alonso, Mascherano, McDermott etc etc.
He'll do a job but that's all.

Just a few things to totally discredit nonsense about him being poor or average

In the future when people discuss the great midfielders who have played for this club do you think he will get a mention?

No one is calling him “great” though - but he isn’t average or poor

It doesn’t have to be one or the other

Henderson is a very good player who over the years has been very good for us - was pivotal in the team where we have come closest to winning the league and right now he is an important member of the squad

He isn’t a great player nor is he average or poor

Okay let's leave the word great out of it, in future when people discuss the best midfielders to play for this club do you think he will get a mention?

Again it doesn’t matter what people will discuss in future - I don’t care , all that matters is what he does right now for the club . People will discuss players whatever they do - there will be plenty of players over the decades that won’t be classed as one of the best - doesn’t mean they aren’t good enough to play for the club
