Actually the thought of having betting booths inside places where professional sporting events take place is down right ludicrous to me.  The only places you can bet here in the States (legally) is in a casino.  And until not too long ago, it was only allowed in Las Vegas.  Atlantic City just recently (2 or 3 years ago I think) allowed sports booking in casinos.

However seeing as this is the Jonjo Shelvey thread.  Very happy to see him doing well for Blackpool.  I think he's got alot of potential to be a more than solid box to box midfielder for us.  Looking forward to a bright future from him.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

That's ludicrous to you?

How about owning a firearm before legally being able to drink. That's one f.ucked up law, never mind betting!

Ludicrous may have been the wrong word.

Odd. Silly.  Strange.

If you are trying to make sure that a sport doesn't have match fixing going on, well, why would you allow betting to take place at the venue it's being held at.

Your reply to my comment would be like me thinking your point was that only drunk people should posess firearms.

Anyway, How about that Jonjo Shelvey.  Sweet right foot.

Do you have horse racing in America and are you not allowed a flutter at them?

Secondly, match fixing is generally fixed when players agree to throw a match - see cricket and the Pakistani's for this and an entourage of ITK's can bet ANYWHERE in the UK (bookies) if they know a match is fixed - not just in a stadium, so removing them from stadiums is utterly pointless and wouldn't solve such problems, even if they do exist in English football. This fixing between players is generally  held well away from the venue in a hotel room or wherever, not at the match. So your thinking is more of a cultural difference, if it's presumed you can't bet any where other than a casino.

Now that is a "silly" strawman comment, my comment was in reference to your "silly" LAWS (a cultural difference), not how people conduct themselves within them.

got to admit TGY I'm not familiar at all with culture over the pond but I'm quite surprised that the thought of betting shops is ludicrous to you. Loads of people like to make predictions and things about sports and back it up with a little flutter.

At least his thread is getting some traffic.

Bam, I was just making a light hearted joke with the "only drunks should have firearms" comment.

Greavsie, We over here are very paranoid about possible tampering with sporting events here in the states.  It is a bit of a culture shock for me to see that I can bet even on the official LFC website (BTW I can't because my wife works for a financial institution and is not allowed to have any of our accounts linked with any overseas transactions that could possibly be linked to unmonitored income).

Actually legalized betting is a way to curb match fixing. Ppl's urge to bet are fulfilled preventing them from going to shady bookies and if there's an irregular betting pattern, it is quickly detected.

Scored in the Middlesbrough game to secure a 2-2 draw for Blackpool. 6 goals in 8 appearances now, the kid will bring Blackpool back in the prem by himself!

Just read on the Offal that we have recalled Jonjo from his loan.

Clearly Shelvey has been drafted in to provide midfield cover in the absence of Lucas. Not necessarily like for like, but I would hazard a guess he would fill in more than Spearing. Purely on a physical level he would be more effective than Spearing.

Perhaps we'll invest in the January window and Shelvey will return to Blackpool.  Im sure Jonjo will get plenty of game time though with just 3 other fit CM's and a bunch of matches coming up.
