Obviously loaning him was a great idea. Scored a goal at the weekend as well against Burnley I think in a 3-1 defeat. Hope he starts in more games from now.

Leeds United 0 Blackpool 5:

Referee Roger East missed Lees' intervention and was helped into a decision by his assistant before making Jonjo Shelvey take his penalty twice following encroachment. On both occasions, the Liverpool loanee's execution was precise.

Finally, Shelvey hat-trick goal was converted with a touch of class.
++

Always good to see Leeds get battered.

Why?

If so, explain why EVERY premier league club has a betting booth INSIDE the stadium?

I have abeen a Shelvey fan since day one. I actually think the Hodgson era unsettled him. He needed a gradual introduction under the wing of a great like Dalglish.

I will stick my neck out here (and probably get grief but no one never got anywhere playing safe), in my opinion Jonjo Shelvey is the long term replacement to Steven Gerrard.

His performances haven't shown Gerrard genius yet but I have seen moments of Gerrard-esque performance last season. Something about his stature and style says to me, in time, he will be brilliant.

I agree with you. His box to box game reminds me of Gerrard 2001-05 an awful lot. Ok I know he's still young but the potential is definitely there. He can also play as an orthodox number 10 and yesterday for Blackpool he played as part of a front three.

I'm not a big fan of the loan system personally but with players such as Shelvey, I can see the benefits as they get to play regularly, a bit like Pacheco at Norwich last year.

Style wise they may be alike but ability wise there is absolutely no comparison.

In my opinion we shouldn't be looking to replace Gerrard like for like - talents like his only come around as often as Hayley's comet. It should to be a team (from here on in) built to match and emulate "Gerrard's genius", whether Shelvey is a part of that, only Kenny knows.

Good point KK.  Also - see Alonso, how many have been labeled the replacement for Alonso, it's never been the case.  Build a team and dispense with the "like for like" comparisons.

I not saying he'll achieve the heights Gerrard had but with the right development his potential to succeed here will come through.

His loan spell is showing that he can perform and provide goals. Experience and time will be key here.

Not just the prem. but everywhere in Europe as well, probably the whole world as well. Although I bet my self now and then, betting causes more games to have set up results. Probably doesn't happen in the prem. and in the CL but Italian leagues, French and even lower English leagues have set up results, mostly because of betting.
