John arne riise - This is a wind up right?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Is it just me or the sudden influx of Riise's news on how winning the WCC is important as well as the intense battle on the left side of the team is just a ploy to get our minds off this Champions League Medal controversy?

He wouldn't sell that medal, no chance.

What's with Riise mate's eBay comment than?

probably just joking around, nothing in it I'd say.

Even if Riise has sold it (which I can't believe he would) it sounds like there is absolutely no way of knowing that it's his which was sold on ebay. After watching the video it looks like his mate's comment of - 'this is going to be sold on ebay' - is most likely an extremely unfortunate coincidence.... Either way they can put this story bed in two minutes by having Riise getting his picture taken with a CL medal. If he has sold it, get one of the other lads to lend him theirs.

While I haven't seen the footage, I have no doubt from the others who have seen it that its genuine. However, my take on it is that its a windup by Riise, a prank in the same vein as Cisse's Scream mask last year.

The reasons why:

1. £1500 is chump change to John Arne Riise, who is probably on between £30,000 to £40,000 a week at Liverpool.

2. A Champions League medal would fetch far more than £1500 on Ebay, even a 2005 one.

3. Why sell a medal now, 7 months later, when its going to become more and more valuable in monetary terms in years to come?

4. Can we seriously believe that a player would sell a Champions League medal, which is unarguably the most prestigious medal in club football, while he is still playing (or for that matter, at any time in his life)?

5. Medals are normally only sold for charity or in pathetic circumstances where a player is riddled with debt and alcoholism.

i agree with those salient points jbg. but its true that riise is the type of 'character' to pull a joke like this. fair play to him for that. just thought the whole thing taken lightly and with a very large pinch...overall, was worthy of a mention.
lets hope he can pick up another medal this week!

whats that supposed to mean exactly?  ??? are you foreign and have difficulty with the language?

Plenty of foreign people on here Neil.Me for one.

cool, I feel you missed the point though, I need help determining what exactly "This is one of the most obscure stories I've ever read?" means. Obscure- Deficient in light; dark.

I presume your trying to take the p.iss.

You've answered the question yourself when you defined obscure. Dark, unclear etc.

In this context:

"This is such a strange and obscure story that it is difficult to
recommend any punitive term with complete confidence"

"What Men Live By: An Obscure Story by Leo Tolstoy"

"An obscure story written but not drawn by Barks offers a solution to this mystery."

.....I...see....., so, er, what was the 'most' obscure story you ever read? did you manage to read it? in such unlit realms, a brail version of an edgar allen poe story would probably get the nod, I imagine?
Barks' field is animation, hence the 'obscure' reference to his written work.

bollox. The main reasons are as listed by JBG. A player still under contract like JAR earning as much as he does would not be so skint that he needs to sell off his winners' medal off so cheaply.

Just watched the video. It seems clear to me it's a mate of Riise's and he's just having a joke with Riise about the E-bay thing. Nothing in the story at all.

This is what has happened.

1. Someone sees the video with Riise and his friend joking
2. Someone that doesn't like Liverpool starts a fake auction
3. Same person bids and wins his own auction
4. Same person calls the media and tells them of the "fake" story
5. Profit for them and bad for Riise and Liverpool "not much"

^^Probably spot on there.

Anyway, in regards to the "obscure" argument in this thread - why do you care so much, Neil?? I read that line and thought the person meant to say absurd. Who cares if they did or not, though. Why point out something so pointless..
