John arne riise - New deal

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby euro_champs » Fri Jan 20, 2006 3:02 pm

John Arne Riise has today put pen to paper on a new contract with the Reds that ties him to the club until 2009.
Riise joined Liverpool from Monaco during the summer of 2001 and has been a key member of the first team squad ever since.

The left-sided Norway international can operate in midfield or defence and has so far scored 23 goals in 235 appearances during his time at Anfield.

Manager Rafael Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv today: "I'm delighted that John has signed a new deal with us.

"He is a dedicated player, very professional and he has a great mentality. His attitude is first class. He trains well and works hard every day.

"He has always done a good job for Liverpool, whether at left back or in left midfield, and it's great news that we can include him in our plans for the coming years."

good to see us keeping our best players

best news i've heard since traore signed a new contract.

nah, joking aside i'm pleased for the lad. despite his flaws from a positional point of view, he's still the best left back that we have at the club.

I remember talk of him possibly leaving last summer. Would have been a mistake. Cracking player, made up he's staying. :)

Good Work Riise son, you have done this club and us fans proud the last couple of seasons. Go collect the last missing winner's medal now, and you have accomplished everything Club football can give you. (spewin about the World Club Championship though, next time...)

He doesn't have an FA or UEFA Cup medal.

It's good news.  Stability is always a good thing and I get the impression he's popular among the other players.  He's not as consistent as he'd probably like to be, but he always gives 100%.

JAR is quality, he is always 100 % comitted and can play steadily at full back or if needed in midfield, where he pops up with goals.
I am made up he is staying.

Good news, I already said a while ago I was surprised he still didn't have signed a new contract, I was told then that he might have some personal issues or something.

I'm glad for him, he hardly gets our regular praises like Gerrard, Alonso or Carra, but he's a very REGULAR player, I cannot think of many days that you say "bad game" perhaps the first half an hour in Luton and few more. Good news. I'm happy.
