Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby europian-kings » Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:46 pm

Can't wait for Liverpool fans to see what an average player they're giving 100k a week! Been saying it for months: no longer that skillfull, not quick so he struggles to beat people, average crosser, average passer, shocking shooting, jumps in to tackles given away freekicks in dangerous areas!

a message from a chelsea chav to me on facebook earlier today lol.

We'll see....i'll make sure to quote you on this if he does prove you wrong matey. Roy is gona show him alot of love and make him feel a hell of alot more appreciated then carlo did. I have 100% faith in joe cole. Football is all about opinions...i dont think we will agree about much other then that time we both said pepe reina is the best keeper in the permiership. We just have to wait and see whos opinion was the right one come may next year. p.s. you still owe me £20 from that "who will finish higher" bet in the 08/09 season you dirty f##king chav!

my reply :D

I think you are being a bit harsh on him. He has had a few injury problems in the last few years and has also not really fitted into any of the systems that Chelsea have used post Mourinho. But despite that he was influential in helping Chelsea to win the league last season.

Stick him on the wing... We're pretty stong down the middle going forward with Gerrard-Torres-Aquilani in the side... Where we lack a little is down the flanks... With Joe Cole-Kuyt-Maxi-Jovanovic i think we should be okay against most sides...

My big prediction is that we'll have more players scoring more goals this season than we've had in a few seasons... Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt, J.Cole all need to be scoring goals... Add goals from the likes of Aquilani, Jovanovic, Maxi, backup striker..etc and i think we should be fine..

Joe Cole 'wanted to join Tottenham' - Harry Redknapp

Harry Redknapp has revealed that new Liverpool signing Joe Cole had "wanted to come to Tottenham".

Cole, 28, joined the Reds on a free transfer this week after he was released by Chelsea in May.

"I spoke to him a month ago and I thought he was coming here," said Tottenham manager Redknapp, who managed the midfielder at West Ham.

"He wanted to come to Spurs. He'd made his mind up - I had no doubt. But a month went by and Liverpool moved in."

England international Cole signed a four-year deal with the Anfield club and will reportedly earn £90,000 per week.

Meanwhile, Redknapp believes Tottenham could win the Premier League this season. scratchchin.gif

The 63-year-old helped Spurs to their highest Premier League finish last season, with fourth spot also guaranteeing the club a place in the Champions League.

"I feel we could contend for the title; we have got the players here," added Redknapp.

"We have to aim for it. We could win the championship.

"Last year, we went in saying we wanted to finish in the top four and if you don't aim for things, you have no chance."

However Redknapp, whose only signing of the summer so far is Brazilian midfielder Sandro, said he would need to strengthen the squad in order to challenge strongly on both European and domestic fronts.

"The Champions League is massive - forget budgets - we just want to be there," stated Redknapp.

"If we can get into the group stages, we can make an impact. We have good players - some fantastic ones at our club. And they can get better.

"We are going to have to rotate at times - we cannot play the best players all the time. I feel that, if we can bring one or two players in, it will make a difference."

COLE REFLECTS ON CRAZY NIGHTS

Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole is confident he can settle down quickly at his new club after a "crazy" few days.

And the 28-year-old England international is optimistic he can play his part in bringing silverware back to Anfield, with their last trophy coming in 2006.

Cole completed the formalities of signing his four-year contract yesterday when he passed a medical at the Reds' Switzerland training camp.

Cole admits things have moved fast since he opted to move to Merseyside on Monday instead of remaining in London where he has spent all his life and was attracting interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.

"The last few days have been crazy," said Cole.

"I set myself a deadline to make a decision and when I made it I sent a text to (managing director) Christian Purslow and Steven Gerrard and then turned my phone off.

"It's a dream come true. I've only been here for a couple of days and my head is still in the clouds. It has all happened so quickly.

"I always knew this was a massive club but until you sign you don't realise.

"I have had people on my phone who I didn't even know were Liverpool fans.

"It seems everyone I bump into is a Liverpool fan - it's a huge club."

Cole's free transfer to Liverpool came as something of a surprise as it was believed he did not want to move from the capital.

However, the midfielder is fully prepared for the challenge which lay ahead both on and off the field.

"It's a massive deal. We've just had a young baby girl, but I'm 28 now and I have a good family around me," he added.

"I know people will make me feel welcome and the response I have had has been amazing.

"I just want to get involved. When you move to a new club it's important to immerse yourself into everything about it and that's what I'll be looking to do.

"I know the fans are great with the players and I will fight to try and win trophies for this club."

Cole's signing was seen as pivotal in the club's quest to hold on to prize assets Gerrard and Fernando Torres, who had both expressed their desire to see things improve at Anfield.

Just 24 hours after it was announced Cole had agreed personal terms Gerrard returned to pre-season training after his post-World Cup break and immediately declared his desire to remain at his boyhood club.

And that was just as big a boost to Cole as it was to manager Roy Hodgson, the players and the fans.

"That was the best bit of news I could have had," said the former Chelsea star.

"I know Stevie, he is Liverpool through and through and I know from playing with and against him for the last 10 years what a quality player he is.

"I know how much this club means to him. I think players can play for other clubs but with Liverpool you have to live and breathe it.

"It's that kind of a place. I am excited by the challenge. I am moving my family and everyone is excited and booking their weekends up here. I am going to make it work."

Harry Redknapp what a king size c**t. I hope Spurs fans saw how much Harry was lining himself up for the England job during the world cup. Trouble was the FA decided they would stick with the s**t they had.

spudz don't have the defence to challenge for the title IMHO. Too many injury prone players, they have a lot of attacking players we should envy but defensively I think they need strengthening but I get the feeling they won't feel they need to.
