Actually, I wonder how well Riise could do moving in a noch to centre midfield?

It's worth a try in pre-season. I almost feel sometimes for us Riise plays as our second striker (could try that out as well)

this is wat uefa sed on uefa.com.'A speedy, attack-minded left-back, Patrice Evra has developed into one of the most exciting defensive prospects in France. AS Monaco FC coach Didier Deschamps said that Evra reminded him of a young Bixente Lizarazu.

Yeah, but he will either join Rangers full time or go back to France, either way, he won't be here next year!

I think we need to keep Traore as cover but should def get rid of cheyrou..It would be nice to see Diarra in the prem next season but I read somewhere he wants to stay in France...Evra looks like a decent player and I think would be a good signing

we should try and get a good price for Diarra, ok he don't want to come back but i'm sure there are some other French teams who are willing to pay for him.  Tell the team he's at "pay what we want to we will tout him to other who will"

he had a good season for monaco in last years champions league but has done practically nothing since then.

however, in the long term, i think it's in our best interests to put riise back to left back and bring in a top quality left winger. as well as riise has done in that position, he's not an out and out winger.

Finnan at Left Back!
???

I agree about JAR going to left back though and bring in a good left winger!
Not Sure if Van de Vart is an out and out winger but there should be options out there!

Can't believe all this chat again about Riise at left back!  He was constantly exposed when houllier played him there as he is just not a good defender.

He has been good at left mid thuis season and his main strength is a good shot when he gets into the position

However I feel his best position would be wing back and long term i don't think he will be in rafa's starting 11.  It would be a shame as he gives 110% every time and is the type of player you want attitude-wise.

bottom line is he is not a good enough defender to play LB and we really do need someone more creative at left mid.  Would definitely keep him as a squad player

Evra is a good player, he is quick, got great stamina, and is solid defensively, but he does get sent off a lot and he doesnt look the best in terms of build up play and compusure on the ball.

A lot of other clubs have been linked, i.e. Arsneal,AC Milan,Real Madrid. But nothing concreate.

The question before anything else is, do we need a left back, and if so what happenes to Riise, Warnock and Troare? Riise is sure to stay, but if we buy Evra then he will be nothing but a back up player. And is left back an area of prioity? Is Evra really that much better than the left backs we have already.

I really think this story is a load of Rubbish, Evra is not the sort of player Rafa will go for. And I'm not sure if we will see a new leftback at the club next season.

Looks like we are keeping Traore...Rafa named as one of his 5 players of the season on liverpoolfc.tv :

"Some players have had very good seasons," says Benitez. "Jamie Carragher has been fantastic and Sami Hyypia very consistent, while John Arne Riise has scored a lot of goals. I think Steve Finnan and Djimi Traore have been excellent. They've progressed a lot.

evra does not get sent off a lot  :o
he may be little better than traoré, he has a better technique (like riise now he often plays on the left side of the midfield), but i think that traoré is a very good player, he seems to be very proud to play with liverpool, he improved a lot this year, i don't thik it would be a good idea to spend money for evra

Sergio Ramos is what we need, he can play right/centre def.  and he has played very god for Sevilla this season.
