First things first, it was the mirror reporting that, secondly Chelsea would outbid you in wages and in a transfer fee, and Eto'o comes across as a huffy mercenary, happy to take the most money he can get.

I certainly can't agree on the point about Eto'o being a mercenary. He turned down many a club whilst at Mallorca and only moved on when it became apparent that Mallorca neeeded the money from his sale. Even them he didn't go to the highest bidder which we're led to believe was Real Madrid (the home in the sun of the footballing mercenary  ).
I aslo believe that eto'o wouldn't choose the chavs after he and Ronaldinho were allegedly on the receiving end of some racial abuse from some of their backroom staff. I know it was only ever alleged but tha did come from the players themselves and if they're still harbouring a grudge  over it then we can use that to our advantage.

For this transfer to come off i think it will take just more than money and in that respect we could have the upper hand. Rafa like the report says has got many contacts in spain to exploit plus he was at Madrid at the same time as Eto'o so he has the advantage of already having some sort of professional relationship with Eto'o that the other contenders don't have.

He did turn down some clubs while he was at Mallorca but that was because he was waiting for Madrid to come back in for him as they owned 50% of his registration and he always felt he would be recalled. 

When it became obvious that he was not going to be given a chance back at the Bernabeu he jumped at the chance to join Barca to stick one in the eye of Madrid.  However, I do think that he is becoming more and more interested in financial gain and you are right to think of him as a mercenary now.

I would say though, that I also think he is determined to make a name for himself with a club. Not a name maybe (as he has done that with Mallorca and Barca) but legendry status.  That is what the rivalry is between him and Ronaldinho.  Bearing that in mind, consider his rivalry with Drogba, which is far greater than that of his with Gaucho. He would love to go head to head with DD in the EPL and he hates Mourinho and Chelski.  Therefore I do think that he could go to Liverpool if he was to leave the mighty Blaugrana.

Although that isn’t going to happen.  Ronaldinho and Deco are more likely to leave.

As long as Ferguson is there, Ronaldo will stay. Scholes can still perform next season, Giggs can still play, although we will need a replacemt because he won't play that many games, We already have two other keepers and Van Der Saar can still perform next season.

We only really need a winger, central midfielder and maybe a striker. We also have a few good reserves coming through.

I saw a bit of "revista de la liga" last night on T.V. and Guilleme Balague reckons that due to the rift between Ronaldinho and Eto'o, Barca have decided to get shot of one of them and chosen to get rid of Eto'o. He's apparently been offered to the premiership "big four."

Now like every Liverpool fan I'd love to see this come off but would they sell for £20m though? Can't see that myself, not when Chelsea will probably offer double just to stop him moving elsewhere. However I'm also led to believe Chelsea are really up Valencia's ar$e for Villa. Serious bidding from Chelsea according to Balague and Hunter and numerous other sources so hopefully if there is anything to this then Chelsea will be out the way. Eto'o could be the sort of signing the new owners want to make as a statement of intent. Add to that the bad blood between Barca and the chavs, and it doesn't seem totally ridiculous that he would come here.

Just a word of caution though. Every summer we go through this. After we won the Champions League some ludicrously suggested we had £40-50m to spend net. Then last summer people started believing we'd pay some absurd amount for new players, we didn't.

Now because of the investment people are off on one again on every forum believing we have more money than we know what to do with. Not saying anyone on this forum specifically, but I'd rather wait and see and prepare myself for disappointment rather than suffer it unexpectedly. We're still not in the financial bracket of Manchester United, we're miles off the spending power of Chelsea and probably in around the same position as Arsenal when it comes to buying proven first team players.

Also, if its a case of Barca wanting to sell him not him wanting to leave then surely it would be upto the player himself where he goes. I know he has talked about us favourably in the past and next Tuesday he is going to see what its like when you play for Liverpool.

By the same token, reports also saying Robben is fed up at having a bit part role at Chelsea so may be available in the summer. Would anyone here be happy to see the diving little tw@t playing for Liverpool after what he did with Reina? As far as I'm concerned, even though he has been a little sh#tbag and takes a dive, I would snap him up. A class player. Ironically I can also see him being easier to get hold of than Alves, who along with Villa must be the two most sought after players in La Liga right now.

I dont know how much of this story is true but:

Id take both those players. If Rafa was willing to take on Craig Bellamy with his of field past im sure someone like Robben wont post a hige task or Rafa to mould.

But in the case of Robben would Chelsea sell to a rival or does not matter now that the know we have funds on a high level aswell now?

As for Etoo I think we would all like to see this happen and if other clubs get involved and this turns into a bidding war we have to trust that Samuel wants to come to us. Similar to the situation when Newcastle wanted to bid almost double our bid for Fernando Morientes but he stuck with our offer and came to us.

I think he would make a great addiditon and surley he is capable of hitting 20 a season.

Also I should have said im not sure what Rafa is like when he has a big kitty. Im pretty sure he didnt have a lot of money at Valencia and he had average amounts if anything at Liverpool so it will be interesting to see if he will remain shrewd and look for bargins or just say " it lets get him".

I've got a funny feeling that the Chelsea silly money may be coming to an end. Abramovich seems to be losing interest, seems to resent it that Mourinho gets all the credit and wouldn't even let him buy that Bolton defender on a free in January.

I reckon next summer he'll only provide limited new cash and tell Mourinho to sell if he wants to spend. However if a new manager comes in Abramovich probably will get his chequebook out again.

I dont know if Roman himself is getting fed up with Chelsea or just with Mourinho but something is certainly going off there.

Another point regards Chelsea buying Eto'o or Villa is that they currently have Drogba and Shevchenko. Drogba is playing the very well and his goals are keeping them going. Shevchenko is Abramovichs good friend and is obviously the Chairmans first choice so therefore where would another superstar striker fit in?

I'll be very surprised if Maureen is still at Chelsea next season, and if it is Hiddink being lined up to replace him, he may be tempted to keep Robben, Dutch connections and all that. Anyway, Robben is injury prone, and seems to have motivational problems playing for the Champions this season - he's a funny one, but undoubtedly one of the world's best left wingers, so we've got to be interested.

I also think he likes us: he told Kuyt how great the atmosphere is at Anfield, 'though they don't like me'.

Eto'o would do just fine, though Tithead is right - he'll go to the biggest and richest club that are in for him. And if Rijkaard leaves Barca this summer, as he is thought to be, that might be Barca.

I'd prefer Villa, but he seems less than enthusiastic about coming to us.

Well I agree with him that one will be sold, but Guilleme always get’s it wrong to be honest, especially about Barca considering he is an Espanyol fan.

Eto’o was brought in by Laporta, while Rosell (ex Board member) was responsible for bringing in Ronaldinho and Deco.  Rosell and Laporta had a big falling out in the early days of his presidency so I believe that it is far more likely that Laporta get’s rid of Deco and Ronaldinho.

Plus hasnt Abramovich personally contributed to Hiddinks wages as Russia manager. I doubt Hiddink would leave. But i may be wrong of course.

Samuel Eto has an ego bigger than the Nou camp that is clear.....World class players like him are super confident it it can be easily read as arrogance.

As for the mercenary label,id say thats about right!
Sadly the way football is these days most footballers will choose double wages over their prefered club.Footballers that come from overseas and are happy to play for half the wages they could get elsewhere are few and far between!

All this saying that we will out bid is another part of football that saddens me.
Is it really any other clubs business who we are signing until the deal is done??
No its not.......BUT this is happening regularly now as greedy agents shout proposed offers from the rooftops in the hope a higher bid comes along,hence more commission for them.

Raffa is going to have to make sure he keeps his cards close to his chest in his dealings and reach agreement with agents that they keep our business..exactly just that.Unfortunately i cant see this happening and fear deals will be hijacked at the last minute like Newcastle did with Owen.Clubs have a strict code of conduct they need to stick to legally when buying and selling players,unfortunately agents seem to be given a free role to do what they want!

In short id love to see Eto at Anfield regardless what anyone says hes one of the hotest goalscorers in the world.But we will have to break the bank...£20 million will not be enough!

As for Robben??

Cant see Jose ever selling a player to us,hed prefer to see him go to a mid table club for half the price rather than any other of the top 4 clubs...like he did Duff!

I tnk hed be a great signing and hes still young enough,20m is a great price.But would Chelsea offer double that?They have lost alot of money this year and i dont think they will spend as much money.Id love to see him at Liverpool,i dont care how many strikers we have ,if we have him,hes first choice,bellamy can off if we get eto'o,and i wouldnt not sign him because we "dont need another striker"hes a must buy if we have the money.
