Boy, you guys are quick. I immediately went downstairs in my house because that is where the PC is to get into this forum and post and I saw this thread by Santa...
Very frustrating end to the first half. We kept the pressure up bu like you said, Santa, the final ball to the strikers were high balls. We all know that Baros is utterly hopeless at controlling the high ball to create any sort of threat to the opposition. This is the play we used to do for Owen. We have realised that this is too predictable a style of play and it got us nowhere in the Spurs game.
Anelka - that is a striker. He has a dodgy temperament but he sure knows how to capitalise. You don't need to deliver passes on a silver platter to him and he can still make something out of it. Apparently, we have the wrong kind of strikers, can't do any damage unless the ball is gilt edge quality.
It is back to the aimless high ball final passes. We need a target man if we continue to play like this.
And Dudek, what can I say that most of us have not said already? Why is he so prone to conceding goals like this and goals on his near side? Why did we not get Robinson who went cheap to Spurs? At least that is a real 'keeper. Ours is so cr@p that he is utterly unreliable. He can only stop shots that come directly at him. Any shots on either side and you can worry that he will not make an adequate cover and ultimately concede goals.
From the looks of it, we really need a new 'keeper.
