Djibril cisse - Worth buying?

Particularly as he plays in France, no-one has seen enough of him in action and none of us trust Houlliers judgement of a player anymore.  We will be lucky to get 2-3 million collectively for the dead wood that is Biscan, Traore, Diao, Smicer et al. So how we are gonna go out and buy the likes of Malbranque and another Centre-Half i'm not sure.

I would also like to see a player like Robbie Keane in a Liverpool shirt. I also believe that Baros will be a difficult man to leave on the bench as he looks like he may be ready to realise his enormous potential - I may have a couple a quid on him for the golden boot at EURO 2004 if the odds are good.

Funny how all the UK supporters seem to leave out the cr#p Heskey. Its always easy to blame the foreigners. Wake up and smell the coffee. heskey has been dead wood for over two seasons but we overlook him and we paid our socks of for him.

I have been disapointed by African players recently.

Nigeria gave me huge pleasure watching them in 1994 and 1998, and for a while in the 1990s it looked like Africa was bridging the gap with excellent players like George Weah.

However, there are very little African players making a difference at the business end of European football at the moment.

Vieria was born in Senegal but he left for France when he was a child and all his football education came in that country.

Quinten Fortune has made huge strides at Man UTD but he is not one of the best footballers in the Premiership.

JJ Ockocha has entertained many in England, but he's playing for Bolton, not Arsenal.

J D Job has been a flop at Boro. You can count his goals on one hand.

Djemba Djemba is struglling at Man UTD.

Both Lauren and Geremi are very good players, as is Kolo Toure, but none of them could be described as "world class".

Both Salif Diao and El Hadji Diouff have struggled for Liverpool, and while Jospef Yobo made some waves last year with Everton, he has faded somewhat this year.

Benni McCarthy is a good player, but he is no Roy Mackaay or Thierry Henry.

Sammi Kuffour is perhaps the only African player I can think of that consistently makes a big impact at European level. Kuffour is an excellent defender.

I think this is a fallow period for Africa, but its probably only a trough in its otherwise upward development. The talent is certainly there.

When someone starts quoting pre-season tours as evidence of footbaling equality or claiming that Ian Rush is a "foriegner" it shows that your missing the point Fakoe.
If the African Nations Cup was the showpiece of that continent then it will  be years before a champion team will come from there. The basic standard of the football was so immature and inept it made the "experts" on the panel look stupid when they talked of this "great player" or that "great team". I agree that Vieira is one of the best of the world but it is significant that despite his place of birth he plays in Europe for team and country. He would not be the player he is if he played for Senegal.
I don't understand your point about Heskey, his first season with us was a success by any standard and he has since been played out of position and asked to do jobs which he is unsuitable for. If EHD had brought similar results since coming I wouldn't have a problem with him.
When the chips are down for LFC , look no further than the scousers.

Hip Hip Hooray, I actually got you thinking but not much further than your nose, let me enlighten you a bit. Your great English team played a game in Durban South-Africa last year June and South-Africa fielded a side with players from the first division, because most of its first team players had commitments at European clubs(their employers)the best England could do was 2-1. Don't compare apples and pears mate compare with one another. Point is still, England don't have quality players of their own to field against the likes of Brazil and France(with African players). The best English players is Michael Owen (has been),Emile Heskey (Quasimodo), David Beckham (screw the ball) and Wayne Rooney(Shrek). On any given day an African side will whip their butts. Back to club football, LFC was thrashed by our local teams(sadly) since European football is suppose to be superior.

Once again without all the foreigners and the foreign support the premier league is dull and the support base is much bigger outside of England than what it is in England.  :p   :D

My point exactly!..if  cisse does come is he coming to play for LFC?....or L"e frog  houllier?..where does his heart lay?...if gh is no longer in charge would he still be so keen to play for us, my guess is no, cos its not the lure of playing for a great team of our reputation, but the lure of meeting up with an old aquaintance, plus to make a "fast buck" at our expence. ???

Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier has given his strongest indication yet that France striker Djibril Cisse will move to the club from Auxerre in the summer.
A deal worth £14m is thought to already have been agreed for the 22-year-old.

Houllier has hinted that the move will happen by saying Cisse would be a valuable asset for the Reds.

"If he comes, Liverpool fans will not be disappointed. He is a striker who I believe could bring something good to Liverpool," he told the club magazine.

"He is a player we have been following for three years, which tells you how highly we think of him.

"He has got pace and power and he scores goals. If he comes, the fans will expect a lot of him but I don't think he would disappoint."

Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier on Djibril Cisse

One of the most highly-prized talents in Europe, Cisse is almost certain to miss out on Euro 2004.

He was banned for five international matches after being sent off for kicking an opponent in an under-21 game with Portgual last November.

But that does not seem to be a concern for Houllier, who added: "All I know for now though is that we need four strikers. We have seen how important that is this season.

"Cisse has said he would like to come to Liverpool. That's got to be a good thing."

Looks like it's pretty much guaranteed. 14m is a lot of money though.

Much like he signed Cheyrou, Diouf, Heskey, Biscan etc along the same lines

Cisse won't disappoint - Houllier

Gerard Houllier has told Liverpool fans that they 'will not be disappointed' if Djibril Cisse completes his transfer to Anfield in the summer.

It has long been accepted that a £14million deal has been all but agreed with Auxerre for the striker.

The France international has openly talked of the move and his desire to play for Liverpool and is believed to have visited Liverpool's Melwood training ground for contract discussions and a preliminary medical.

And now Houllier has said: 'If he comes, Liverpool fans will not be disappointed.

'He is a player we have been following for three years, which tells you how highly we think of him.

'He is a striker who I believe could bring something good to Liverpool. He has got pace and power and he scores goals. If he comes, the fans will expect a lot of him but I don't think he would disappoint.

'All I know for now though is that we need four strikers. We have seen how important that is this season. And Cisse has said he would like to come to Liverpool. That's got to be a good thing,' he told the club's official magazine.

Despite being one of the hottest properties in Europe, Cisse is almost certain to miss the Euro 2004 finals after incurring a five-match international ban for a sending-off on under-21 duty.
