Djibril cisse?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Ciggy » Wed Feb 08, 2006 11:24 am

Been thinking about from now till the end of the season, and whats install for Cisse?
If he hadnt have been injured and Michael Owen would have stayed things could have been a lot different.

I remember the pre season tour in America 2 years ago where Cisse and Owen where on fire we battered Celtic 5 -0 and a few others to mention, it seemed like we had found a great partnership, but it wasnt ment to be MO left and Cisse broke his leg a few months later.

He got fit before schedule when he shouldnt have retured till this season, everyone was singing his praises and the determination he made to get back long before it was due.

So what changed? What happened in them months from us winning the CL.
Immediatley he found himself up for sale, because he was the most saleable player at the club that his services where no longer required to fund the return of boy wonder, as he was about to come onto the pitch all a very angry Cisse could hear from some of our supporters was "Theres only one Michael Owen"
Was this fair? I think not.

An angry Cisse scores 2 and assists Garcia to make it 3-1 for us to go on and win the cup that looked like evading us.
Still mooted for sale or on loan within that transfer window, plus the January one, would effect any player I should imagine its different if a player WANTS to leave but he didnt neither did Milan Baros.

My question is if he hadnt have been told he was surplace requirements, would we have seen another side to this player?
Its all in hindsight now, but I feel the club didnt help with the situation cause look at the problems we are having now, with none of the strikers scoring in 2006.

What will happen with him between now and the summer transfer window? He will want to score goals to get his place for France in the WC, but on the other hand he wont want to do Liverpool any favours either or will he? That he will fight to stay? Or is it all to late?

Either way we stand to loose an awful lot of money on this player in the summer, what does everyone think?
Will he take this opportunity when he's given the chance?
Or do you think its to late in the day for any reconciliation?
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Kenny Dalglish 1/2/2011

In one word - 'confidence'. The lad is short of it and this is having a devestating effect on his performances. The dilema for Rafa is whether he risks playing him and having 2/3 sh!t games before he regains his confidence, at the expense of the team. IMO the situation that Cisse found himself in, with the leg break, was the decisive factor. After the leg break Rafa built the team as if Cisse was never there and rightly so, the prognosis at the beginning wasn't good. This left Cisse in a cr@p position when he returned - bottom of the pecking order of strikers and short of match fitness and confidence.

I think Cisse would come back a better player next season, but I can't see Rafa taking that risk. I think Rafa will play it safe and sell Cisse to fund the buy of a striker who is in form.

This mod johnymac might ban me :(

I wonder is it a coicidence that he's the mod responsible for all my warnings(yellow flags);is he the only MOD/person who can warn and ban people?

A thought provoking read ciggy. I have to agree that 5-0 demolition of celtic and everything was looking good. BUt i agree it is now a problem of confidence and just finding that "scoring form" for want of a better phrase.

I think he needs a solid run in the side 3 or 4 games in a row (as a striker of course, not RW) to find his scoring boots again. Every striker has baron spells, but when it happened to Van horse face, he played every game till he found his form.  Similarly with Crouch - although he does alot of really good link-up play and layoffs etc- he was given 14 games in a row before he found the net for us. Its no good playing him for 2 games then not playing him for 2 games, then 1 as a sub then 1 start etc, if he hgad 3 starts, garrenteed he would score by his forth and then hit form and be banging them in from all angles.

As mentioned above... can we afford to do this? - put him in for 3 or 4 games in a row... i'm starting to think yes becasue the rotation of the strikers is not working for any of them

Can you take your whinge and gripes somewhere else? Your comment has NOTHING whatsoever to do with Cisse or his performance.

And I think that might be the straw that broke the camel's back anyway.

Ciggy...do you really think Cisse demonstrates the consistency in his standard of play that is required for this competition?

Personally, I doubt it and I don't think he really cares about LFC. He'd be happy to ply his trade anywhere. So let him go anywhere. The Northern summer will see shot of him...I hope!!

Sell in the summer. Baros had his limitations but between Cisse and Baros I think we sold the better of the two strikers, and that's saying something.

He didnt exactly set scoring charts on fire before his injury and while its not his fault. That 14 million pound fee does hang around his neck.
For that sort of money even during those crazy transfer fee times you really do expect a lot better
He did have a tremendous fightback from that injury but his fall from grace for many  fans has been pretty spectacular. From the uproar about his possible transfer in the summer to his current situation where many see him as dud who needs to be replaced by A quality striker to take us to the next step.
I love to see him suddenly come good and start knocking in goals left right and centre, as it would be make things a lot of cheaper for the club, however cant really see it happening.
I think he will be gone in the summer

In my opinion Rafa just doesn't like him, as a player at least! In that repect I believe Djibril hasn't been getting a fair crack at the whip, and when he does get 15 minutes at the end the team don't give him much service for him to try and fabricate something, maybe because they are defending the lead in the closing minute's our something? I think he's the type of player which requires the team to play around him, he need's to use his pace as his primary weapon, but he doesn't get enough through ball's to exploit that.

Also, he get's played out of position too much and he clearly can't do much of a job there unless it's against poor and slow oposition. I would prefere to see Cisse play ahead of Morientes every time, based on his speed alone and in regard's to that, he has more to offer than Morientes, his total lack of reaction and speed really frustrates me, so as I said, a much sharper Cisse get's the nod from me.

Let's face it, we all know he can finish, weaker league or not, his job is always the same.

Contrary to that, I think Cisse need's to work harder when he does get the chance, many time's I see him just walking around while our other striker's chase up and help the defender's. Cisse would rather wait, let someone else get the ball then play him through. Maybe that's why Rafa seemingly doesn't like him, because he doesn't offer enough team play.

P.S. If any striker goes in the summer, it should be Morientes, he offer's little to the team in my opinion, and I think his goal scoring record is worse than Cisse's.

He's never had the ability in the first place, not good enough, never has been, never will be.

Go and fuck yourself Mudface, nobody feels sorry for you (certainly not me) and you're already on my bad side.  You're annoying me and you have been since you logged on here.  I've given you four warnings up to now for:

• Boasting you had hacked your account and disabled your warning facility.  Proved you wrong since haven’t we?
• Starting a thread purely to antagonise Lando Griffin last week, causing ME problems because when he logs on you would start taking abuse which you would inevitably complain to me about, leaving me to sort out a mess you started in the first place. Are you trying to make the moderators’ job harder than it has to be?  Do you think I get paid for typing this shit to you?  I’m sitting here in work you dickhead, I’ve got better things to worry about than you.
Trying to turn a discussion on Djibril Cisse into a racism debate, THE VERY SAME DAY we had to ban an extremely problematic member for continually trying to bring discussions on this forum into racial debate.  You got off lightly to be perfectly honest.
• I’ve had a complaint from a member about a comment you made this morning.  Admittedly, the comment was not as bad as some I’ve seen, but there were definite racial undertones in it, which I’ve explained to you in PM.  People have had their accounts disabled for classifying people into racial groups whilst name calling on this forum in the past.  What gives people the right to call someone an English <Insert Word>, an Irish <Insert Word>, or as you did this morning, “a latino punk azz snitch”.  Yet you are still posting, and I might add, complaining about me.  You fucking world class idiot.

Added to that, you are publically taking the piss out of me with your above post, joking I might warn or ban you simply for making a post on Cisse.  You falsely make out I am the only one with a problem with you?  Do you read the replies to your posts?  Yet on the contrary, you appear to be the only person on here to have a problem with me.  If you had been around here longer, you might have noticed I give a lot of time up for this forum and its members and I don’t appreciate my limited time being wasted on people like you.  I have little tolerance for problematic members, to their cost these members have found this out and you certainly fall into that category.

This morning you have gone over my head crying to Supersub, as if I’m singling you out.  Yet you’re the one with the name Mudface, and a picture of an African-American actor Larry Fishburne in your avatar.  And your very third post on this forum was a picture of a KKK gathering.  There’s a pattern there somewhere I just can’t put my finger on……..  This is your third account on here, and when I banned you after the KKK incident, you PM’d me asking to post again if you behaved.  Yet you’re on four justified warnings.

Is that enough explanation from me?  Don’t complain when I finally give you the fifth warning you are inevitably going to deserve.  You just can’t help yourself.

Sorry to ruin your topic Ciggy with that previous post, my opinion on Cisse is that he is not in Rafas plans and I don't blame Rafa.  He does not fit into the system we play.  There were a couple of games over Christmas (especially the Derby) where he looked as if he'd been told shape up or shape out and for a time he looked a different player with a different attitude to what we have all seen and become used to over the last eighteen months.  He held the ball up well, bringing others into play as well as playing to his obvious strength of using his pace to beat players and delivering crosses when played out wide.

As a hitman, I don't believe he's going to score us goals any time soon.  He's a saleable asset, who in the right system would I admit probably score goals, but not for us, and it's obvious we need a hitman and he is not going to come good for us anytime soon.  If I'm being honest, we can do better and there are better strikers than him out there.

Having watched Crespo a bit more this season, what would you give to have him in your team?  The guy can play, scores goals for fun from far and close range, two footed, great in the air and times his runs to perfection.  Everything Cisse isn't.  I'd love someone like him but it's not going to happen any time soon.

Anyway, back to work.......
