I think the government should take a lot of blame with their policies towards the three issues below

SMOKING/DRINKING - you see adverts about quitting, the health risks involved in smoking and drinking and so on. But the government won't ban it because of the tax on it, they are happy to compromise their ethics over ££££

GAMBLING - it is as adictive as smoking or drinking, but the government doesn't seem to worry people can rack up big debts - and it doesn't take long to rack them up. It's knowing when to stop, and when you've lost say £500 you want to win it back and then you want to win back your £2.5k and then your £50k and then finally you are £700k in debt.

PREMIUM PHONE LINES - these should be banned, they provide no worthwhile service and are just a rip off. You see the standard "texts cost £1m plus your standard provider tariff" on various adds, I caught a bit of "Wordplay" yesterday and the answer was so obviously "Fiddler on the roof", but they keep the lines open to get lots of people to ring in and be robbed of their money. There have been so many "scandals" with competitions recently, and they are not much better than gambling in all honesty, maybe more difficult to rack up big debts, but still a form of gambling, that I'm surprised they don't have a severe clampdown on it. And they must rake in millions when cr ap like "big bruvva" comes on, I seem to recall hearing or reading a few years ago, that they pull in something like £200k a week from voting.

All the above are a mug's game, you could say people are free to choose to do what they like, but the only winners in the above three are the people taking your money and most can affect your wellbeing/health. I don't advocate a clampdown on people's choices, as much choice as we have, but you have to question the motivation of the government in keeping some legal and not clamping down on all of them. Clearly people aren't bright enough to avoid most/all of the above, but the government isn't too bothered if people drink themselves or smoke themselves to death, or gamble themselves into poverty, as long as they get their taxes.

oh grow up.

we are adults, if we wanna smoke, drink and gamble... wewill!!!

you want a nanny state where the government lets you do whatever you want???

feck!

would now be a good time to offer him £50 for his Champions League Winners medal?

Could be a bit more to it than that Daws, if that is just his arrears on that account and he is struggling to pay it. That would suggest that he has lost alot more, more than likely.

no. it would be a credit account. so probably over a number of years he accumulated those debts with the company. So he probably bet with them for over a year without paying any debt off... in which case its nothing and its down to the company to keep there credit accounts in check

Daws took all his money :nod

Fecking gutted for him , to be honest its an addiction that can really spiral out of control no matter how much you earn. I Remember years ago Hansen had to be dragged out the bookies nearly every day, opposite the kop when he first came here , Paisley would send over Ronnie Moran or Roy Evans , He used to go missing all the time,

Hope Didi sorts its out like , lovely man who still holds a lot of respect with players an fans alike for his time here , Gutted when he left , went to early in my opinion
HE WHO BETRAYS WILL ALWAYS WALK ALONE

What a complete fool, just upset he didn't sign up via my gambling sites.

Being serious though though gambling addiction is a major problem but most good sites now limit how much a person can gamble in any one week/month/year etc. The problem is that these chumps just create loads of accounts in different places. Why the hell Didi was allowed to run up those huge debts is quite beyond me but then again you have to remember that being £600,000 in the hole for him is the equivalent of us owing about £10,000 to the bookies. It must hurt but if he gets some councelling then he would have been able to get out. Just hope he can get a new contract somewhere, stop gambling and pay off his debts but any nestegg which he should have built up is gone. I do feel sorry for him for that but I still think he's a chump.

As for banning gambling, two words "feck off". It will never happen anyway as most people know how to gamble sensibly but you always get a few people who go over the top. If we banned everything that could be harmfull thenthe world would be a very very dull place, all we can do is offer help too addicts.

I hereby offer my services to any blond 20 year old nymphomaniac girls out there.  :D

I am quite surprised at the amount of people on here that genuinely dont feel sorry for one of our best recent players and a legend in my eyes.

I know some might be joking about it and only messing but i feel dead sory for him if he is in dire straits.

how did he get addicted in the first place ? He placed the bets himself no one forced him to it was his own choice to bet the money and start in the first place . Its not an illness you cant help . He knew the risks and still took it . Why should will feel sorry for sorry who earnt millions each and threw it away thru his own choices no one elses
