Now I'm only young but it doesn't take a genious to realise that Paisley, along with Shanks, stand side by side in their legendary status at Liverpool FC.

Infact he is still disgracefully overlooked by the relevent authorities and some within Football while others are still revered and handed honours, more for donations to certain political parties rather than football successes it must be noted. How the British managed to honour Alex Ferguson and not Bob is beyond me

He was a war hero too boot aswell.

By the way, did anyone ever have the pleasure of meeting the great man?

Before my time but what a manager.

Just looking at those accomplishments I noticed that every year between 1977 and 1984 they won either the league or the European cup. Amazing.

Overlooked because he didn't have the charisma of Shankly and wasn't as loud as Clough/Ferguson. More of a Jock Stein type.

Bob Paisley was my hero. There is no man connected with football , manager or player I would put above him.

I wasnt lucky enough to meet him in this life brother..

Brian Clough wasn't one to heap praise on our club, but I remember him saying 'Bob Paisley proves that nice blokes can be winners'

Those two qualities sum up why he epitomised this club, and why he is possibly the greatest manager in the history of English football.

Favourite Bob quote: one game, when Alan Kennedy had a stinker, he took him aside and said, 'They shot the wrong bloody Kennedy'

I've always loved that quote from him as well after the '77 European Cup Final:

'This is the second time i've beaten the Germans here... the first time was in 1944.

It's a damn dirty shame that this country has never recognised his achievements officially for his club on the football field and his country on the battlefield.

There is a government petition on the 10 downing street site for Bob to recieve a knighthood. You have to sign up before March 13th 2007. There is 103 names on it so far

I've always thought Shanks laid the foundation but it was Bob that built the house , a great great manager.

Nobody will ever emulate him. Not just his trophy haul but the fact that he did all of that after having no previous managerial experience. What the f#ck was a UEFA pro-licence back in those days?

A monumental man and a shining beacon of brilliance within the footballing firmament... Never could you wish to meet a more humble, simple, honest yet devastatingly astute individual.  Long may the memory of his achievements continue to be associated with the standard with which to aspire at this football club...
