Real Madrid have Liverpool boss Benitez on shortlist
tribalfootball.com - March 2, 2005

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is being lined up by Real Madrid directors for a shock return to Spain next season.

Real's recent run of poor results has raised fresh doubts over the future of their Brazilian trainer Vanderlei Luxemburgo, despite him only being appointed over Christmas.

DiarioSport says Real chiefs have identified Benitez as their No1 choice to replace Luxemburgo should he fail to meet expectations.

Real will find it difficult, however, to prise Benitez away from Anfield where the Spaniard enjoys a good relationship with chief executive Rick Parry and chairman David Moores.

This is in stark contrast to what he endured at Valencia, which led to him accusing his former employers of trying to write him out of their history books this week.

I think Rafa is here for the long term, he loves the fans and the club and his family are beginning to settle in Liverpool, no chance, they may take our players but they won't get Rafa the Gaffer!

Hope not Scott, he did say when he joined us he would love to manage Real :( .
And if they wanted to they would aproach him, how many managers have they had this season 3? already.

Rafa doesn't strike me as the kind of man who would walk away from us after one season just because Madrid (if the story is true) make him an offer.

Seems to me that Madrid get their kicks out of expressing interest in a player or mgr just to rattle another clubs cage.

They got beat again at the weekend they arnt doing to well.
If this is true and I hope f@ckin NOT.
We would be in big sh#t, all them spanish have only come because of him ok only Morientes, Alonso and Garcia have been quality, they would go with him and Liverpool would be in deep deep sh#t.
But I hope he tells them where to shove there offer if true.

yeh , but b4 the loss to Bilbao they were undefeated with Luxembergo in charge - plus they beat Juve in the CL.

if they continue with their poor league form, and get knocked out by Juve then we may have something worry about. Even so I don't think Rafa is the type who would walk out on us when the job isn't done yet.

Yes he may be out of a job next season if he went there anyway, the way they chop and change managers. :kungfu:

Rafa left Valenica cos of politics behind the scenes, this is why he came to Liverpool. The board here allow him to do things his way and trust in his abilities.

iF he thought it was bad at Valenica then why on Earth would he go to Madrid with all the boardroom politics that go on there? Florentiono Perez has more say in the team than the Real Madrid manager does for god's sake, so Rafa isn't gonna go there.
