But how long to see the potential?
A couple of games, to many people don't know what potential is. Players don't become something they aren't and don't get skills they haven't got. If they can't pass and control a ball or head a ball at 17 they'll never do it be the time they're 25.
Much like with Jack Hobbs, he's nowhere near good enough, absoloutely nowhere near. He's a League one player at very very best.
But in todays game thats exactly how it is, look at beckham, he can pass a ball and cross one but other than that what does he offer? You have ITV commentators, BBC commentators, SKY commentators, all wetting themselves over what a great player he has been. He hasnt. He hasnt been a great player, he has done what was required to just simply play football. When I mention potential, im comparing todays players to ...well.... todays players ! just to do the basics. The players we have can offer so much more, they can also dribble the ball and have better control. People like hobbs, no I agree they are not the best but people like Lucas, babel, yes they can be better it all depends on what we are looking for in class players. Potential to me means at a young age knowing the all round play of a game, than just being able to pass a ball.

Bill Shankly: “I was the best manager in Britain because I was never devious or cheated anyone. I’d break my wife’s legs if I played against her, but I’d never cheat her.”
