Collison will be a cracking player mate, if he can stay fit that is! Or he might be my Robert Earnshaw, everyone has to have to have one!! Same applies to Johnson who was looking like a cracking little player 12 months ago, just saying it might be worth a gamble on one of them rather than selling Xabi for 30 mill and spending 20-25 mill on his replacement. I just don't see the point in tryting to replace Xabi like for like now that the most obvious candidate (Barry) has gone to City.

Scott I'm not doubting you at all mate, when he's fit I very much like Johnson myself while I've never seen the other lad. That wasn't really the point of my post mate, I'm fully prepared to believe that they'd be decent signings (better than Robert Earnshaw anyway   :D ) but they don't have that right ring to them for us to sign them, if you get my drift.

Jaques, Michel, etc maybe. Jack and Michael? Nah.

Yeah I know what you mean, it will be a couple of guys we've never heard of! I'd just love to see us pick up a REAL bargain (like Xabi at £10 million) a little more often.

I haven't seen much of Sneider but so may of the guys speak highly of him here that maybe he should be involved in any deal for Xabi.

Hleb is a cracking shout, a player I REALLY like BUT I don't imagine he in any hurry to leave the European Champs to come back to play in England.

My Robert Earnshaw would be Dean Ashton   :D

Raul Morales is a decent player. We we not also linked with Moutinho?

Mario Balotelli is a good striker but we would never get him.

Senna would be a great short term option, fits both profiles pretty well. Then maybe take a punt on Johnson at City, another good all rounder and with Kompany, De Jong, Barry, Ireland and feck knows who else, they may well be open to offers. Worth a punt I reckon. If we could get Sneijder for under £15m I'd take him too.

Has anyone considered Elano coming in for Alonso ,I cant see him wanting to stay at Man City with the tireless influx of players ,they haven't even started recruiting for their new midfield yet ,so I can see Elano being surplus to requirements when they inevitably do .

I have always thought Elano was a really gifted player capable of doing Xabi's job with aplomb

It's a decent shout mate, I've always liked him, good player who could deffo come in and do a job for us. Don't know that i would put him in the Alonso role though, certainly not playing as deep or defensively as Xabi. i see him more as a player who can link things up or he could play as in inside left against the weaker teams in Rafa's current set-up.

He's got a point though, I think it's unlikely we'll ever see Rafa sign a young English talent like Collison (I know he has just committed to Wales) when they are at this stage of their development. He tends to wait for them to have an absolute breakout season at which point the selling club can demand an absolute kings ransom for the player. Johnson is a good signing but he hasn't suddenly become super talented, sure he had a fine season and has develoiped some consistency, but the talent was always there. I'd love to see us sign these guys before they breakout, particularly as we can't compete financially with the mancs, Chelsea and City.

They wouldn't sell him to us and if they did it wouldn't be cheap so that is a no go.
