If this were the first time that question marks had been raised about Rafa's man management approach I wouldn't be concerned but it's not and an emerging pattern is there for all (who are willing to acknowledge it) to see.  I'm not saying Riera should be excused for handling things in this way--bleating to the press is not on--but it does add one more piece to the puzzle that is Rafa Benitez IMO.

or there is another spin... who is criticising his mgt style? players who havn't made the grade, despite all the chances. Lets not forget all the good and grt players are currently on signing or have recently signed long term contracts.

Riera is it out of order.. I would be happy to see him get the 'Rafa treatment' in the reserves. If it wasn't for Rafa he would not have been in the Spain squad per se. Rafa has resurrected many a career.. lets not forget many doubted Torres, and he readily credits Rafa for his development and success since coming to LFC.

It's absolutely classless, and anyone who uses his words as another little tidbit to back up their mudane and tedious attacks on the side and manager is a class A knob as well. I might just about buy that were it not for some of the hints Alonso has made since leaving the club and were it not for some of the comments made by Carra in his biography.  I think there are top players who are just as hacked off with Rafa's management style but who are far more professional about the matter (which I agree Riera has not been).  As many have said, if and when Rafa goes it will be interesting to hear what some of the current players divulge, just as it will be interesting to read their views when it comes time to pen or update their autobiographies.

Er, we finish in the same sorta position now as we did under houllier and evans. Its just that the amount of places in the competition has increased.

And i genuinely believe that its the standing of the club and not the manager that has got these players in their national squads.

On the subject of riera it has seemed bizarre to me all season.
He seems to have been clearly frozen out.

He was a key player in that run last season and the side had far better balance than anything we have seen this season. So to me his continued ommitance is rather puzzling to say the least.

Hamann hammers Riera for Rafa rant

Dietmar Hamann has hit out at Liverpool winger Albert Riera after he went public with his frustrations with manager Rafael Benitez.

"I didn't read too much into the comments because he's a player who has not played too much football over the last six to eight months," said the former Germany international.

"He is clearly frustrated but you have to say since he signed for Liverpool (in September 2008) he has not done enough to really have an opinion on the manager.

"If Riera is not in the team it is probably because he is not doing enough in training or in games.

"You have players these days who complain about managers and I think these players should look at themselves.

"The first question you have to ask when you are not playing is have you done enough to be in the team.

"These days it happens too often with players who can't get in the team and the first thing they do is blame the manager.

"I can honestly say I have never had a problem with a manager in 15 years of my career and I would never blame a manager for not playing."
