I weigh 12.5 stone. I'm 27 and I'm 5 10".

I really don't think I need to lose weight at all whatsoever as I reckon I'm a healthy weight. I use to be 11.5 constantly when i was playing football and working out three times a week, but I stopped that routine about two years ago and have since gained a stone, but it's maintaining at that weight, so i think 170 or just over is my natural weight to be at.

However, I'd like to tone myself back up to the athletic shape I use to be in so I'm going to take a half a stone or slightly more off again. I reckon I can do it in a month and that's without needing a daft diet either.

Stopped smoking about 5 years back and mix that with quite a sedentary life style, on set of middle age and over indulgence I have put on about 17lbs (about 8kg).

Weight 171 (78kg)
Target 150-154 (69kg)
Goal 1-2lb per week (.5-1kg)

If I can get below 11 stone I'll be well chuffed and ideally I would like to get near that target by the end of April (this year  :) )

Gonna take it easy, swimming, easy cycling, walking/jogging eventually and golf (which I stopped playing 6 years ago due to becoming Dad for the first time).  Everything in moderation... as they say.

I reckon we report back with progress on mondays... what d'ya say?

Good luck

lol,
i smoke, well im gonna quit with the help of the nagging GF, i weigh 186 kilos which is about 13.06/8 stone, and to be honest im not happy with that, i want to weigh more, im 6ft at 13.06/8 stone but i look real skinny, so me and my mate are joining the gym to tone and put weight on t get a lil stockier,

i eat and eat but it never seems to show on me.   im an real odd person, but i suppose when i quit smoking the weight might pile on then ill be happy, my ideal weight to be is around 14.1/2 stone with a nice toned body, not to muscular just toned.

I'm a body beautiful so not an issue for me :D

If you want to lose weight stick your arm into the lawnmore while on, you'll lose about a stone in 4 seconds, some drawbacks though :D

No doubt, the gym is full of people this time of year, I go by the trouser test, if I can't fit in them I give up booze/chocalate/crisps for a few weeks and jog a bit, that does the trick (lose about 6lbs in 3 weeks).nip it in the bud before things go out of control and it is easy enough.

F8ck joining a gym. Get out and run or go swimming. Indoor football is good too. If the place is warm inside, you'll be sweating buckets. Do this and buy your own weight set to use in your own home twice a week and you'll be sorted within a few months.

There's little point looking at your weight as a starting point, you should be looking at your weight scaled to your height, i.e. your BMI.

My view is that, as long as you eat reasonably well and vary what you eat (none of this diet malarky btw), and exercise a few times a week - even if it's just a 5 mile run, a round of golf, or a five-a-side match, soon enough you'll reach your natural body weight.

Gym's are a waste of money IMO, unless you're looking to train seriously or recover from serious injury. There's nothing in a gym worth paying the money to use IMO, other than specialist weight machines which are predominantly used for rehab.(ilitation) anyway, so basically unless you're recovering from injury or want to train seriously, feck the gym (IMHO). Treadmills, steppers, spinning bikes etc. offer limited movement. Ask any serious runner if they use a treadmill - they'll say no, because what beats getting out on the road in fresh air, using a range of movements having to adapt to ground surface, direction, incline, weather etc. The same applies to spinning bikes, and to a lesser extent rowing machines.

In conclusion, get of yer arse and move.

Running on roads f*cks up your knees though, also in Winter likely to hit by a car.

Threadmills have "give" in them which protects the knees. Unfortunately cycling not as good as running as only moving half your body. Swimming isn't good for losing weight either (partly because the water keeps your body cold - I think?)

Get liposuction?

Treadmills are a waste of space, IMHO.

They cost a shit load, are difficult to maintain, and only really usful for rehab.

You don't have to run on roads, you can run anywhere you like, playing fields, cross country tracks - all have a bit more 'give' in them.

Bottom line is if you want to lose weight: expend more calories than you consume.

No.

And No.

Swimming is one of the best cardiovascular exercises for the body. You use all of your major muscle groups and there's no risk of getting stress injury as your body is supported. Most people think that it's useless, and you don't really have to expend more cals than you eat. Not necessarily anyway. Excising the heart boosts metabolism, so once that is boosted, you more or less burn weight off even when you're sleeping after a work out. It depends on how much muscle mass you have too. More muscle mass means working them burns a lot more fat, so it's a good idea to build some muscle to help burn the flab.

Lipsuction? F*ck no! Remember, low metabolic rate and your body will just start storing fat again.

A common misconception is that eating less means you'll get skinny. While in the long run this is true (at risk of health or death no less) after your body is starved, it will start attacking fat cells first, then muscle when there's no fat. However, starve your body with the intentions of still eating and it will have the reverse effect. Your body will start crashing and go into a mode where any food you intake it will store any fat for energy. If you trick your body into thinking it's starving, it will take measures to protect itself regardless if you want it to or not. There's some things we can't control, and our bodies is one...to a certain extent.

Work out and eat clean, like LFC2007 said, your body will maintain itself to it's normal weight again.

You have a funny way of explaining it but you are correct in some of what you say, if explained in a slightly odd way (attacking fat cells :D).

Just to repeat the physics equation though:
If you expend more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. If you consume more calories than you expend, you will gain weight. Cast iron FACT.
