There isn't one Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish player that would get in the team.

Gareth Bale and Craig Gordon are perhaps good enough for the squad.  David Healy who is by far N Ireland's best player wouldn't even make the squad on merit.

Yeah but you'd get round that by ensuring the squad has an equal ratio of players. I.e.

The combined population of the home nations (to the nearest million) = 61m

This breaks down into the following percentages -

ENG - 84%
SCO - 8%
WAL - 5%
NI - 3%

which should equate to the following distribution in a 25 man squad

ENG - 20
SCO - 2
WAL - 2
NI - 1

Obviously this may prove unpopular, even though it is a fair representation of the combined population, so you could say:

ENG - 12
SCO - 7
WAL - 4
NI - 2

I bet you if the GB team was in the olympics and it was on today that players like David Healey would be in the squad. obviously they don't deserve it but some political meddling would want it to be "british" and not "english" even though I cannot think of a single good scotish/welsh/NI player.

The team should NOT have the three lions (as mentioned above) but should have the Union Jack or whatever the rest of the British squad wears.

Whats the difference between the British national anthem and the English one - are they both god save the queen?

I don't understand some of the fuss going on. The rest of the British Olympic team forego their regional allegiances to play.

F'uck it, hardly watch the olympics and i'm certainly not gonna support a GB footy team. I want complete and immediate independence from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, the b'stards will only shift the blame to us English when TEAM GB lose.

According to wiki, the National Anthem of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is "God Save the Queen."

And the coat of arms appears to have a unicorn on it  pic

I thought Rule Britannia was an anthem.

Instead of a song about the queen, how about one by Queen - "We will rock you" would be a great anthem.

You should start a campaign :D

I think originally it was just the Anthem for England.

verse six says

"Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring
May he sedition hush
And like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush
God save the King "

Not sung much at GB events nowadays, I don't think it goes down to well with our celtic subjects.   :D
