Straight choice between Gianluca Zambrotta and Paulo Maldini for me, both play left back for their clubs and are excellent all round footballers.

Probably between Ashley Cole, Heinze and Zambrotta. Defensive - Heinze, Attacking - Zambrotta ,all round Ashley Cole.

I think cashley cole is overrated tbh. Remember against chelsea at 'the bridge' Pennant ripped cole apart in the first half.

IMO, ashley cole is nowhere near being the best LB in the world. Hes got great pace and thats all. Not skilful enough on the ball such as someone like alves (yes i know right back) or zambrotta, eboue even nor is he that great at defending. How he can be called best left back in the world I don't know. Extremely over hyped by the english media but hey, whats new.

Zambrota for me, Maldin's a bit past it

BTW that Maldini has got too much 'superiority' attitude .. did ya see him in the CL final, not even acknowledging our el Captain :angry:

Ashely cole is a typical over hyped English player, there are plenty of better left backs than him. I would say the likes of Zambrotta, Heinze, Sorin, Maldini, Roberto Carlos and Grosso are all comfortably better than him.

John Arne Riise is, has, and never will be in the top 5 leftbacks in the Premiership, let alone the World.

I don't really pay much attention to Italian leftbacks, so I will just go with abstainence on this one!
