Maldini may be getting on but he is as good as any younger left back in the world.

Stoney,
I have seen plently of left backs play mate. Carlos was the best, but is past it now, watching him in La Liga is painful although he scored a goal the other night.

Grosso has had a few good games thats all, and Zambrotta is not all that. Some people cannot see past the Chelsea shirt.

However remember Ashley Cole at the Euro's, he was a class act. He kept Ronaldo in his :censored: pocket and recently against United he done the same. When he played for Arsenal, Ashley was at his very best, attacking and defending and was a model left back. His attitude stinks yes but his ability is without a doubt.

For me dodd, cole just isn't good enough defensively nor has he got the technical ability to be the best left back in wolrd football.

This was my view even when he played for arsenal. I believe that his lightening pace make people believe that he is better than he actually is.

Cole is nowhere near as good as people make out, his defending is often average though he can raise this side of his game occasionaly like in euro 2004 vs Portugal. It is also a complete myth that he is good going forward. Yes he has great pace and stamina so he can rocket up and down the wing all day, but his firtst touch, crossing and shooting are abysmal. Ask yourself this how often have u seen Ashley Cole provide an assist or a goal? not very often i can tell you that.

Roberto Carlos will be my choice.. Experience plays a part here.. Can attack and defend.. Can even score.. What else do u want.?.
Leighton Baines seems impressive.. Wait for his senior debut..
Cheers..

Well everyone has different views. I think though he would walk into any team in the world at the LB role. Us, Arsenal, Man U, Barca, Real, MIlan, Inter etc.

Fowler_E7  think your being a bit harsh there mate, he was a good force going forward for Arsenal, especially linking up with Pires down the left and he was always in and about the box. Also in that season when Arsenal were the "Untouchables" he was immense.

On a serious note, there aren't many LBs who stick out.

Youre not asking much there brother, hes a left back after all and nobody is perfect.  :D  Id have him easily top 3 or 4 in the world.

Ashley cole for me, hes isnt gr8 going forward but how many lbs out there are great both forward and defensively, and dont say Zambrotta because he is right footed! Altho he is also gifted with his left foot which is why he occassionally plays there as well.
