I personally think Gerrard would be England's best choice.  I have said before he is the type of player that needs to feel important to a side to get the best out of him, you can see how being the main man at LFC does that.  I hardly think he felt that important during Sven's reign considering he has nearly always been played out of position, first wide left before the emergence of Joe Cole and now as a defensive mid to accomodate the inferior Lampard.

But would I want him to be England captain?  Selfishly, no I wouldn't.  Being England captain has other responsibilities off the pitch as well as on it and is a draining job I would have thought.  I wouldn't want anything to take away his focus from being captain of Liverpool and performing well for us.

Do I think MacLaren will make Gerrard captain?  I doubt it.  As with Sven, his decisions will be heavily swayed by the London media, so I expect Terry to be given the captaincy ahead of the other main contender who I think is Gary Neville.

Gerrard because it will bring the best out of him for england, he will be more confident and he is the best leader in the squad along with terry but gerrard shades it for me.

Good point that, never thought of it like that, maybe it would be better if terry got it instead so stevie can concentrate on liverpool without the hassle of being england captain.

Terry will probably get it, but i think Gerrard would be the better choice because he is a more consistent player, but i hope Gerrard dosnt get it, coz i dont want him to be turned into Mr England, like Beckham, Owen and Shearer where. He is Liverpools captain and i want all his focus on Liverpool FC.

What an emotional speech by Beckham, almost tearful -how did I contain myself
The peoples choice would be Gerrard , and I think he should be the next captain obviously. All the qualities are there, but Terry will probably get it.
I know who wont get it
