I don't think I'm the minority, I think it will be even. Messi needs the same sort of influence that Zidane had to be even close to him. At 23 he still has plenty of time

People bang about how C.Ronaldo scores 40 or 50 goals a season, which is amazing, but in terms of ability, he isn't anywhere as close as Messi.

Why can't Liverpool produce a Messi? :(

Ronaldo's goalscoring record is unbelievable but like you said in terms of all round ability he isnt anywhere near the level of Messi.

Can't really agree with this Metaldude. Look at the number of world class players on that pitch tonight, and I mean world class - Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Puyol, Ronaldo, Xabi etc. etc.

Messi stood out, head and shoulders above them all - yes, Xavi was superb, Villa scored two - but Messi was the genius in the pack, he was quite simply on another level. And tonight wasn't a one off - he does it week in, week out. No player has stood out like this since Maradona for me.

Yes he did, and this season as well, their best player without doubt.

Zidane was no doubt the best player in the world during the late 90s early 00s but for me Messi is better all-round player who already is up there with the likes of maradona and pele .

CR9 Also takes all the penos and vast majority of free kicks. Look Im not gonna hate on the fabulous one because hes a metrosexual and possibly has lady parts because he too is a fantastic, fantastic footballer. I read about the amount of extra work he puts in to make himself the best player he can be and that, regardless of what team he plays for or, eh, what team he plays for :D that is commendable and is dedication most of use can only dream of having

He got f*cking owned tonight though. I hope Eric Abidal emptied his pockets tonight before washing his kit because I think there is a good chance Ronaldo is still in his back pocket.

I don't think I'll see Real winning anything anytime soon, Barcelona produce world class individuals, Real Madrid don't... that's why Barcelona will always be superior

fantastic player, but not in big games, and today he showed it. not even in the same breath as Messi. Messi was above all tonight, well deserved performance from Barca :bowdown

metalhead wrote:Zidane does what Messi does and more mate, I think people forgot about him a bit, but hell Zidane was the greatest football out there, he single handed won France the WC, he also single handed France getting another final in the WC. Zidane had everything in him, All around better than Messi. Watch some videos of Zidane in his early days and with Real Madrid, you have his passing, dribbling, long shots, headers, vision everything he completely destroyed teams on his own. Physically he is stronger and he also puts in a tackle as well. Messi is phenomenon, but not better than Zizou.

Completely disagree mate.

Messi can do almost everything and his assist/goal tally is what puts him above Zidane.  Both awesome and quite different players, but if Messi keeps this up and manages to do it in a world cup for the Argies at some point, then he could possibly even be classed as THE best ever.  He's that good.

That Barcelona team were immense tonight, perhaps the best team performance I have ever seen.  Only their lack of squad depth can stop them winning absolutely everything this season.
