:D Modern era team

                             Schmeichel

Thuram           Baresi       Maldini                Brehme

                         Rijkaard

        Gullit                Stojkovic              Zidane

                  Van (the man) Basten    Maradona

Subs Jurgen Kohler
        Guisseppe Gianini
        Steven Gerrard
        Gheorge Hagi

Big Milan influence here obviously, with the guile of Dragan Stojkovic and Zidane , and the unstoppable force of Maradona, this team would be hard to beat. :;):

Good side Mikz.

I see you have Kohler on the bench, really rated him highly, initially had him in my team ahead of Desailly but changed it :nod

I like this team too.

Would have probably preffered Hristo Stoichkov to Stojkovic though... and probably swapped Maradonna's position to attacking midfielder and Stoichkov to striker...

Would still be one hell of a team if left unmolested as it is though!

:D

Jurgen Kohler John, great player wasnt he, brilliant in the air too and more times than most when  the germans played Holland, handled Van Basten with minimum fuss. No easy task as you well know.
Hristo Stoichkov ConnOvar, he sulked and moaned a lot -nice idea what you said there, and would also be great whatever way you put it. Its nice to hear other peoples teams cos sometimes they put in a player not so famous and ya -ah i remember him :idea

Stevie's team is so stupid.

Does anyone really believe that half of the greatest players of all time were english. So insular, it is beyond belief. Also with the exception of Bobby Moore they have all played recently - what, nobody great played before 1990.

Watch a few videos Steve.

NOt having Maradonna,Pele and BEckenbaur is ridiculous - surely their positions aren't even debatable

I wasn't bashing SG (well, I guess I was really :D  ) it just bugs me when all these best of all time lists (sports, songs, films etc) are all dominated by the last few years.

How many footballers from the black and white era (I don't mean when Newcastle were good - nobody can remember back that far) made the list.

Di Stefano, Garrincha, Puskas are all believed by many to be the best player ever (obviously they are all wrong because it was maradonna :D ) but you get my point.

Even Beckanbaur is out of many lists but I would have thought that captaining Munich to 3 European cups in a row, Germany to World cup and European championships and changing the whole view of what a defender can do (how many players totally redefine a position?)

That viagra guy  :D is on relatively few too.

TBH - as good as SG is , it is ridiculous to think that he might be the best player ever in his position.

This would be my time with present players that play still apart from Zidane.
                               Buffon

Thuram            Terry            Cannavaro            Zambrotta

                                Keane

Gerrard                      Zidane                             Ronaldinho

                     Henry              Torres

torres?!!!!!?
One good world cup means nothing, he's definetly not that good.
Terry also isnt that good, nesta is better.

Yes I only included Torres because I like him and he is still very young.I included Terryinstead of Nesta because Nesta is getting old

Good selection for that present world xi. I'd have Nesta instead of Terry but struggling to think of a great striker beside Henry, maybe schevchenko.

Also Keane is retired - The Keane of upto 3 years ago, no doubt.
