He was an attacking midfielder for Argentina and Italy in the 1930's. And Pele was vastly over-rated, don't get me wrong, he was a great player, but he scored 1000+ goals in the Brazilian league, whilst Diego Maradona played in Europe with Napoli. Pele and Maradona could only make my subs bench, unfortunately, Gerd Muller gets the nod, as does the best football player in the history of football, the galloping major, Ferenc Puskas.

Puskas, wasnt he the little fat git? :D  Him and Di Stefano were some pair eh. You mentioned Bergomi, Id forgot about him and  Andy Brehme, one of the best defenders Ive ever seen.
But to omit Maradona? ???? ??? And Pele? ??? Everyone has their own ideas on these things , but I would be pretty sure Pele was a better striker than Gerty Muller ???

:D wouldnt be much protection of the back 3 there Ian, very attack minded eh. Then again, would the other team get the ball with that lot on the pitch?

I was going to go for Kocsis (Hungary circa 1954) but WHO do you leave out to get him in !!!! He got 4 goals in the Group game when Hungary beat Germany 8-3 . He went on to score a further 8 goals but lost the final against Germany 3-2.

Also thought about putting in Stanley Matthews and /or Duncan Edwards but I'd be showing my age :p

Puskas was a tubby little man, but that didn't stop him teaching players how to play techincally advanced football same for Sandor Kosics of Hungary. He'd be another players I'd stick in my 23 man team. Gerd Muller scored 14 goals in World Cup finals, Pele scored 12, I think that says it all really.

:)

So you  believe that Ronaldinho is better than Maradonna was then?

I think so Lando.... Maradonna was brilliant but every team he's ever played for had to be built around him. Ronaldinho seems better able to play in a team.

Don't believe that Maradonna will do as well in a team of greats.

He'll still be freak!n fantastic but feel that Ronaldinho would do better in the team I chose.
