yeah i don't think there's any danger of him being subbed for "showing too much passion" like gerrard a few years back. :D

so we're now comparing him to messi? jesus christ.

No one is like Messi, he is the player of this generation. No one would be able to compare. Glad to has Luis though as he is a fantastic talent.

Messi is the best player that has ever played, and he will be for a very long time.  I don't care that Pele thinks he will always be the best... The fact that he comes out and keeps mouthing off about how great he was while Messi humbly scores a hat trick every other game just shows the class Messi has.

Good ole Rafa (not trying to open debate here).  Just love that "WTF?!" picture of Stevie after he was subbed.

Thats just opinion, its also mistaken. Maradona is the best player, Cruyff & Zico were also at messis level but they lit up world cups, he merely disapointed.

I didnt get to see pele apart from the new york cosmos cameos which shouldnt count. Maradona won a world cup on his own, when world cups were at the zenith of footballs existance- 1970-90.

A lot of the more mature members would likely disagree with you there
Just have a good read of this:

Pele doesnt think he was the best. He knows he was, just like the rest of us. What Pele did, for all clubs and his country cannot be matched.

By anyone.

Pele played at a different time, and we will never be able to compare... But it is much harder to best the best player in the world now.  World Cups don't mean anything about a player.  No player has ever won a world cup by themselves as claimed above.  Argentina won't win a world cup anytime soon because they have a team full of selfish players, and Messi.

The game is different now.  It's much easier to stop the best players.  Maradona was a cheater and thrived off that.  Messi's not.  Pele was amazing too, but he didn't play where all the best players in the world were playing.  Everybody that's any good really plays in the Champions league against Messi.  Pele played in Brazil and played with the New York Cosmos.. He didn't have the same competition as Messi.  He played until he was 37 years old because at the time you could do that.  Sure you can argue Brazil had the best league in the world at the time, but when you compare to the competition in other parts of the world at that time, the best players were so spread out.  Now we know exactly where all the best players are.  They're either in the champions league or they're fighting to get there.

Pele would score more goals then games he played in every year, and not just by a few.. We are talking 20 more goals.  The league he played in was nowhere near as strong as the Spanish league, and no competition he ever played in was as good as the champions league.

You can sit here and argue world cups all you want, but again it's different now.  Players get to play with each other 20 times a year and are expected to play like they play together every day.

Messi's 24 years old, and he's getting better.  He does absolutely ridiculous things and isn't even in his prime.  And he's a humble guy at that.

but u can argue that in the past football were made of real leather and weighted 10x heavier than present Adidas ball.
the pitch in the past is worse, and ref dont protect players like nowadays.
Defenders were given a bigger room to foul players, infact i read somewhere that Van Basten had to retire earlier before his 30's due to the damage in his ankles given by defenders.

so it is a lot harder to score in the past.
BTW i thou this is a Suarez thread ???

Yes Octsky, you very well could argue all of those points.

That's what happens when stupid people starting comparing him to Messi

Sorry Luis, won't happen again (at least not from me)

For all the chances he misses and the balls hes guilty of giving away, he consistently finds a way of either scoring or providing opportunities for others. The way he got Rodwell sent off and then won the penalty today is exactly the sort of player he is; arrogant, annoying, devious and brilliant.

He also scored a goal. Man of the match for the impact he had on us getting the win.
