Keeping hold of our top players- Long Term.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby ycsatbjywtbiastkamb » Wed Mar 21, 2018 7:14 pm

Barcelona got bounced into it by a buy out clause they never thought would be met, the fact Neymar wanted to leave didn't bother Barcelona they still did everything they could to stop him including employing an army of lawyers to go through the contract with a fine tooth comb and lobbying La Liga and the Spanish government to block the move on trade and industry grounds.
If Neymar would have had 4 and a half years left on his contract and no buy out clause he'd still be at Barcelona.

Nah we are not.

Bar Coutinho, which top player did we sell under Klopp?

All others players that Klopp sold were either deadwood or players the manager didn't rate at all.

In coutinho's case it was his dream move

so how are we a selling club?

Klopps only been here 2 years, saying that if Mo carries this form into the World Cup it might be 2 out in 2 years.

But he doesn't. He could have stayed if he wanted but chose to leave. If he wanted to go what use is Barcelona shackling him by finding some flimsy clause in his contract?

Mo is still here. No ifs about it. As we speak, Mo is a Liverpool player. The panic this is causing is outrageous (people are going to say they're not panicking but this thread is a direct response to the media and Salah talk)

This is not a panic post in here. I was merely stating that in another year or so, if huge bids came in from the big boys, Salah could change his attitude and decide (like previous lfc players) , that he wants out. The way Coutinho did it by feigning a back injury and missing the start of a season was very immature way to force the move.

It would just be a set back to Jurgens project of building a title winning ambitions.

Keeping our talent is paramount to a successful title bid. Signing more players of Salah class, and lifting the Champions league trophy, is a step in the right direction, also :p

How are people panicking? If anything they are just being realistic. It's just a fact that over the last decade or so anytime one of our players has shown any sort of star quality they have tended to leave. We all know the list - Torres, Suarez, Coutinho, Sterling etc etc. What makes you think Mo is going to be any different? If Madrid come in for him we are obviously going to have a tough job on our hands trying to keep him, denying that is just ludicrous.
We haven't won the league in nearly 30 years in fact we've only won 1 league cup in the last 12 years and top players want to win things. It's no use burying our heads in the sand over this, it's something that as a club we need to address.

Are we talking about under Klopp or under FSG? Because when it comes to selling players I don't think the manager or any manager has complete autonomy. If it was, Coutinho would never be sold. It is a joint decision between owners and manager.

It was Klopp's choice to sell Coutinho, FSG didn't want that at the beginning but then gave the decision to the manager. Klopp said that many many times. He has full autonomy on player who comes in, its his decision.

It was also Rodgers decision not to have a DOF, he also said that and said he won't work with one, so the owners told him ''OK''.

What makes you think the Mo situation is going to be any different from the Torres, Suarez, Coutinho, Sterling etc ones? Recent history has clearly shown that any time we stumble across a player of genuine quality they end up leaving, why would this time be any different? Yeah we might go through a similar charade to the Coutinho one last summer where the club puts up a bit of a fight to placate the fans but if Mo really is the real deal recent history has shown that he will be gone soon enough.
If we can't keep hold of Coutinho when he had 4 and a half years left on his contract, no buy out clause and a World Cup looming on the horizon when will we realistically ever keep hold of a player? The club couldn't have been in a stronger position to make a stand but chose not to.
In fact I find it hard to get excited these days when one of our players starts to perform exceptionally well, in the past I used to think to myself 'we can build a title winning team around this fella' but these days I just tend to wonder how long he will last and how much we will get for him.

Errrrr.....
Because circumstances changed and now we are going upwards instead of being stagnant or going downhill. This was the case with Torres leaving. I don't think Mo is leaving this summer not the next one if we start winning trophies. If he keeps playing like this for the next 4 years then leaves to RM for a change then that's OK because a lot of big players want to try new things in their career.

Why do you want to keep a player in the club against his will? That makes zero sense. Thank god we sold Coutinho though, we look less distracted and better as a team without him now. The club was only in one position and their position was to allow Klopp to decide if he wants to sell Coutinho or not, this is a FACT. it's also a FACT that Klopp said he didn't want to keep the player because he wouldn't play at the same level that Klopp expected he would. You want to delve into those fan conspiracy theories about FSG selling the player to make a profit be my guest, but the facts will remain facts and I believe the words of Klopp and not of conspiracy theorists.

Salah's attitude could suddenly change, if we don't win anything and in two seasons are no closer to winning the league title, for example.
Coutinho left, and he'd just signed a new deal, so anything can happen. Players obviously have more power than the clubs these days, if he can just tear up his own contract.

Klopp still has work to do on our squad, particularly midfield, defence etc before we can realistically challenge for the league title again.
