Anfield name for sale - Does it matter?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Maybe this one has been covered?

So Arsenal are taking in £100M from Emirates.

What should Rick do?  Anfield will be gone, the "new Anfield" will appear.  Manure will be increasing capacity to 90,000.  Chelski will continue to spend.  Should we park the sentiment and forget about the name of an area and concentrate on the quality of the team that requires £££££££££'s.  We have to or we lose ground, don't we?

we have to keep our identity through all of this, we can keep up with them without turning into the twiglets stadium or soemthing.
I like how you ask all of this whilst carefully reamining right on the fence :)
i dont really care about gooners stadium, manures capacity or chelskis mafia spending. im just looking at what we can achieve at liverpool and we dont need dodgy money, marketing ploys or anything else if we buy the right players and have the right mentality.
we can keep sentiment and a good positition in the league if you ask me

I Agree, but it won't be the same when we move ground.

We cannot afford to spend c£70M (and rising) on a new ground and give Raffa the money he needs, which is at least:

1 x defender  £8M
1 x Wide Midfielder £10M
1 x Striker x £10M

Assuming he buys quality and not a load of trash aka Diouf, Diao, Biscan, Cheyrou, Smicer, etc., etc., that said....some of that lot wasn't cheap!

If some company wants to pay £100m to name our new 70K stadium after them, then why not?

The £60m we would spend on the new project could go on players.

The heritage is about games and things won there, so if the new investment means we get better teams and therefore win stuff, then wqe can start a new heritage and write the name of the new stadium in the record books.

I am for it.

Oh yeah, Dawson 99, pulling the splinters out of my backside, fair point, I'd call it whatever the highest bidder paid and then give the cheque to RB.

Depends who the sponsor is ? Can you imagine :

     The 'Poundsaver Stadium'
     The 'Omo Field'
     'Boots Park'
      etc.

i just dont want us to lose our identity.
getting the carlsberg stadium would be ok, but if we start selling shares to oil tycoons and everything liek that then its coming close to the end
very dramatic i know, i just like how we are better than that.
the guy who owns us has a fair wad in the bank anyways doesnt he?
revenue from our playing should be enough so we dont have to resort to a sweets manufacturer to get us out of a tight spot, thats all im saying
i want my cake and i wanna eat it

Arsenal are getting 3million a year.Would we really want to play in the "Ronald Mcdonald stadium" for that sort of cash?

football is like the society its in.
capitalism has a huge inbuilt "self destruct" button. the emphasis on money will lead to its downfall.

i can see the beautiful game going the same way.its happening now and its a really sad state of affairs. its the most important tpoic on every football website right now.
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.

I rather keep the money and keep what has represented us all over the world.

"This is Anfield"

nothing can replace that, no matter how many people a new stadium would hold Anfield would always be better. We should save that money and invest that into our players. Buy players that we need and help Rafa build a squad that will reclaim throne of English football in 3-4 years.
