"At Liverpool, I had almost everything but titles," added Torres. "I felt like a king but the team was falling apart. The directors had sold [Javier] Mascherano to Barca, then Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid without investing any of the money to compensate for the departure of these two key players.
"I was 27, I wanted to know what it was like to lift the Champions League and I had the feeling it was not going to happen with the Reds. Liverpool then was in full transition, the club was being sold and in that case, unless you are Manchester City or PSG, it can be a long road before you are again competitive.
"I did not have the time to wait. One day, Steven Gerrard came to say to me: Fernando, now, you have to think of yourself. Do what you have to do. When I went to tell him that I was going to accept the Chelsea offer, it destroyed him.
"Announcing my departure from Liverpool to Gerrard was one of the most difficult moments of my career. He was my best teammate and I am not sure of finding another like him in the future. We were made for each other."

Financially, Southampton are quite sound, so no real need for them to sell. They will be happy to sit tight for now and let Lallana go to the World Cup and if he shines, will attract more interest and allow them to whip up an auction and command a higher price. With the home grown rule, I can see the likes of a City getting involved at some stage.

The club probably feel though that in Coutinho they have someone who is similar in age/style to Suso but better. I'm glad we are being linked with a quality attacking fullback though.
I'm rapidly going off the idea of signing Lallana, we had a lot of weaknesses in our side last season but our front line wasn't one of them, instead of spending £20m-£30m on an AM I'd rather see us spend that type of money on a dominant Yaya Toure style CM/DM.
If we strengthen the area's behind our attack and give our front 4 a proper platform to work from instead of a midfield that turns up twice a month and a defence that pi$$es goals (not to mention a keeper glued to his line) then I think Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho and Ibe can do even more damage next season.
We aren't Man City or Chelsea, we haven't got unlimited resources so we need to reinforce the area's of the team that really need it. It's pointless going out and doing the same thing next season (ie scoring loads of goals but conceding loads too) so we need to strengthen the midfield and defence.

Lallana or whoever, I think we do need some depth upfront. Many times last season we had nothing on the bench to change a game. We started with our best attackers and if that didn't work, we relied on Moses, Aspas and the like. We can't have that again, with more games, against better opposition in the CL. Ibe will help, as would Suso I suppose, but we need a first team ready forward, which might be Lallana or Konoplankya or even both!

Not for me mate, I'd maybe bring in a back up striker like Remy but that's all I would do in terms of strengthening the forward line. With Brendan's 4-3-3 system we only have 3 or at the very most 4 (when Coutinho plays in midfield) places in our starting line up for attacking players and that would mean we'd have Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge, Coutinho, Ibe and Remy vying for just 3/4 places, that's more than enough depth IMO especially when the midfield and defence are so far behind our attack in terms of development.
When the summer comes around every fan likes to see exciting attacking players being linked to their club and I'm no different but IMO we have to address the weaknesses in our team first.
I'd much rather see us spend decent money on CM/DM's, fullbacks etc who will actually be running around on the pitch than extra forwards who may struggle to get into the team.
If Suarez stays our frontline is good enough to compete with anything in England and in Europe, our midfield and defence is not.
