SKY BET ODDS

Liverpool have been backed into evens to sign Southampton striker Rickie Lambert this summer following a string of bets this morning. The England forward is 16/1to follow former manager Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham and 10/1to join West Ham.

Whilst bookie behaviour can be indicative of insider knowledge spilling into the betting environment. The movement of odds is purely a risk mitigation exercise to protect them in case the betting pattern is correct, it is not linked to whether the information is correct or not.

A few seasons back bookies closed all betting on Conor Wickham joining us....

I don't get the Lambert thing, but what do I know?

He's knocking 30, and for me, I've always thought of him as being similar to Carroll. He'll be cheaper than that of course, but for a side now in the CL and hoping to challenge again, it seems an odd one.

Of course if we get him for peanuts, and he scores half a dozen winners from the bench I'll happily admit I am an idiot!

32? Jesus. It's a Toure type signing up front then??

Seems massively short sighted, and money that could go elsewhere for better results.

All I can think is that he *can* potentially change a game with a goal from the bench and would be happy to be a squad player.  Still strikes me as very odd.

Sky Bet

We've suspended betting on Rickie Lambert's next club following a large volume of bets on him moving to #LFC

Rumours are circulating that Rickie Lambert could be Liverpool bound on a £4million deal from Southampton.

Not quite the Southampton player Liverpool fans had in mind this summer, what with links with midfield player Adam Lallana. Both are on England duty at the World Cup, but the addition of the 32-year-old on a shot term deal may serve as suitable backup or super-sub status.

Lambert spent the entirety of his career in the lower leagues before achieving promotion with Southampton in 2012 where he’s scored 28 times in two seasons. Proficient in the air and from the penalty spot, he’d serve as experienced backup to Liverpool’s current options and provide depth from a goalscoring perspective.

I don't know guys, Lambert doesn't sound so bad to me. He's fantastic in the air, clinical in the box and a good distance shooter. Nothing more than that and might not exactly suit our system, but he'll be a good alternative, the "plan B" that so many of us have been talking about. His only problem is his age, but if we can get him for anything lower than 5 million, I'd go for him.

Latest rumor is we overpay for Lambert, officially, meanwhile getting Lallana for cheaper so that Bournemouth don't get a bigger cut. That's the sane plan.

SKY sources apparently say between £8 and £9 million.
That sounds a lot, unless it's linked with the Lallana deal in some way.

Yep, makes sense, pay higher for lambert and pay less for Lallana (i hope thats the case anyway)

£9m for Lambert. £16m for Lallana. £25m in total. Less money paid to Bournemouth. Everyone's happy.

Sky sports are saying £8m which sounds a hell of a lot for a 32 year old, I suppose though he would be an option off the bench that we'd actually use as opposed to players like Aspas, Alberto or Borini who Rodgers seems reluctant to throw on.
Another factor may be that Brendan is expecting a lot of teams to adopt Chelsea's park the bus style against us next season so he wants someone in there who can get on the end of crosses.
As for him suiting our style, he did well in a Southampton team that aren't a million miles away from us in terms of playing style so he should be okay.
One good thing about him is that he's never had any pace so his age doesn't mean much, maybe he can be our 'Sheringham'.
When Ricky got released from Liverpool (along with Kevin Nolan) as a lad I bet he didn't think he'd be returning to the club.

I REALLY hope this is true.

I'm not against us signing Lambert as a plan B bench player, but £10 million!??!  That's almost as much as we paid for Sturridge  ???
