Liverpool Football Club - Games

Postby RED BEERGOGGLES » Wed Sep 25, 2013 11:57 pm

Strange game that ,we were definitely in the ascendancy at times, but tonight I'm afraid  it was just one of those games. I thought it was encouraging
though ,and I think tonight's United line up albeit from Percy  was far more attacking  than the one that we beat at Anfield ,what with Kagawa ,Rooney
and Hernandez included, the latter who I firmly  believe is a far more prolific striker than Danny Sadsack

Obviously never going to be popular with some ,but Gerrard stunk the place out with his performance tonight ,and yet Lucas who I thought had a far better
game than he did against Southampton gets the big  hook......Anyway,thank Christ we now have game changers like Sterling and Kelly on the bench  ???

Welcome back Luis.

Always gutted to lose to the MANCs but I prefer a loss in the league cup then the league itself

Because we were not leading 1-0 at half time, BR didn't want to stubbornly insist of defensive football in the 2nd half. The squad is still too thin. Once Johnson was out, we don't have a suitable replacement for the position of an attacking right back. With Couthinho out, no replacement either. Suarez would be best working with Sturridge to open up the defences. Stevie is not getting younger and we don't have a quality playmaker to replace him when his legs are tired or if he's injured. F##k FSG for that who are just too mean with funding. And if they're going to insist on signing kids and more kids, be prepared to be without CL football and this kind of results for at least the next 5 seasons and also be a feeder club to the big guns if the kids turn out to be good.

I see Betty is up to his usual tricks again. Would rather the tacky humour of Hustler on these boards than this little plagiarist ****.

Anyway, like most with common knowledge of the game, I thought we edged it and for periods looked the better team. The final third let us down with either the pass or the finish. Hate losing to these k.unts but it was far from the turgid display we saw against Southampton and the lads actually looked comfortable playing at Old Trafford for the first time in years, as opposed to being psyched out by the swathes of manc ***** around them in the stands.

Poor defending from Enrique cost us and that's all it takes in these games as Evra will testify from the prior fixture. Apart from a sloppy shot or two I thought Henderson had a really good game, oh and it was good to see Luis getting some match fitness too. We move on.

enrique did lose hernandez but i thought mingolet was a bit glued to his line, anything in the 6 yard box i like to see keepers come and claim (or at least try to) because if someone gets a flick on unless it`s right at them the odds of stopping it are pretty slim anyway.
i thought enrique had a decent game in general, going forward he`s not the best but he`s great at wrestling players off the ball and showed great recovery pace to catch kawaga when he was put clean through.
we played quite well (as you say thats our best performance at old trafford in years), they just caught us cold 40 seconds after the halftime break.

Pretty much sums it up. I think we looked dangerous throughout and probably deserved a bit more from the game. If we had better options on the bench it could have been a different story. I thought Gerrard Lucas/Henderson did well on the night as did our CBs. Sturridge and Suarez showed promising signs but neither one was at the top of their game. Moses and Sterling both continue to struggle with their decision making and if we had Coutinho in there it would have made a world of difference. Enrique was at fault for the goal but I thought overall he did well. A bit rash in the final third at times but he's far from our biggest problem.

You wont hear it often about a manager who got beat but I think Rodgers deserves credit for putting out the side he did and for the amount of chances we created against Utd (second string or not). Focus is back on the league now.

Good game bad result.

No points lost so no major drama  but the lack of finishing is a concern.

Common Suarez fire up those engines & start scoring.

To start of with its a massive shame we never won yesterday.

I believe we were the better team and very unfortunate not to score on many occasions.

Suarez looked rusty but to be expected after that length of ban. Sturridge had a poor game for mebut has played very well in the last 6 weeks that you can put it down to fatigue.

Back 4 was solid apart from the goal and can finally see why we paid that money for Sakho I thought he was excellent.

Motm for me was Moses - was outstanding should have scored and never stopped until He got subbed

Granted, it's not be the most prestigious cup around but means the FA cup is our only real chance of silverware this season

It was a big chance for us to win silverware - if we have any aspirations for CL then we have to be a lot better

That's a second string UTD out there and we were really only missing Coutinho

and johnson and Agger but dont let that stop you

Whether they are coming backwards towards us or we are making some progress (probably both), it was a very even game, but I would say we controlled most of it.

The formation was interesting and at times it looked like we always had an extra man. Maybe this is why we have that many CBs in the squad?  Is 3-5-2 going be our formation now that Suarez is back?

In the past at OT (apart from the 1-4) we have seldom played so well and looked as composed, so I'm pleased with the performance. Obviously losing to them is gutting, but they continue to look nothing special, and once again no goals from open play.  They are turning into Everton.  Is Duncan Ferguson available?

Looking forward to Sunderland. If we play like that we should murder them.

Suarez is rusty so it will take afew gams for him to get back up to speed, I thought we played well and had enough chances to score, unfortunately the best ones didn't fall to our strikers. That said, my main concern was midfield who totally dominated the 1st half but were pretty non-existant 2nd, Gerrard was well off the pace 2nd half and needs a rest and hendo was like like a headless chicken. SG looked as he had lead in his boots when he tried to jump for the corner for their goal, the ball shouldn't have made it through to hernandez.

For f'ucks sake, and to think I banned Hustler only to be saddled with the same sh'ite from Betty the Loon.

Betty the Loon ?

What is exactly the problem with having a differing opinion on the game ? Shall we all be robots and have the same opinion ?

Yakka thought we were better - I disagreed with that - what exactly is wrong with that

problem is Benny you have a different opinion to almost everyone, sometimes you seem to argue for arguments sake. i've got a mate who disagrees and argues as much as you but at least he only does it after about 10 pints

Thought we were the better team for long spells. Just lacked composure in the final third though. Suarez was still our best player despite lack of games. Sturridge stunk the joint out and shouldn't have started as he's clearly knackered. Gerrard was poor again. Enrique was his usual frustrating self (great one minute, awful the next).

I wouldn't be too disheartened overall though. We showed no signs of fading physically in the second half of this match and could easily have got something out of it. Sunday is a massive game now and we really need to win to get back on track.

To be perfectly honest, Sturridge looks like he's reverting to form and what he was previously known for I.e. a lazy ar$e.
The past few games he doesn't seem to want to put a shift in, chase back, challenge for the ball...
