If he starts ranting about our fans then I doubt no one will protect him.

Rafa is still a f*cking legend.

You're missing the point re Torres and him going to Chelsea, yes they've gone there under different circumstances, still that doesn't alter the fact that his principles should be questioned for going there.

I don't for one minute believe Rafa well ever start ranting about our fans, he does have an affinity with Reds even though in my mind he has chipped a big fecking block off of that existing affinity by moving to Chelsea.

Anyway, it's nice to see that this board hasn't recruited any new Chelsea supporters now like it has over on RAWK. I'm also surprised that as an International OOter I'm more militant and tribalist towards LFC, than some Scousers are - or am I? It is Rafa we're talking about after all.

Why anyone is talking about Rafa getting the sack is beyond me, he has a 7 month contract, that's it, he, their fans and Abramovich know this, so in May he will leave. He has been waiting for a top job, a long term job and I can understand why he's taken the role, it's a chance to get back in the limelight, back in the battle with some serious weaponary. He obviously wants to lock horns with Fergie, fat Sam etc, and come on, would you give up a couple of million for 7 months work?

I really don't see the point of getting upset about past players and managers. You get some supporters who still foam at the mouth whenever they read, see or hear about Michael Owen. Why? He left the club eight-and-a-half years ago, get over it! Rafa has gone to Chelsea on a temporary basis, yes I am disappointed and but this is probably his one and only chance of salvaging his tattered career! He has to think of himself Rafa, he's a manager, first and foremost. Rafa was also forced out of Liverpool and many Liverpool supporters turned their back on Benitez and some still continue to spit on his memory and his achievements with us. Rafa owes this club nothing, he fought and stood up for this club at the expense of his job - he has the right as far as I am concerned to put himself first and go for the Chelsea job.

Fernando Torres is another kettle of fish, he wanted out and left it as late as possible to secure a move which saw us bring in Andy Carroll for an inflated price. He then sat in a chair at the Chelsea press conference and stated that Chelsea were a bigger club. Benitez never really spoke about Liverpool at his press conference and he certainly never insulted us. Even so Fernando Torres has suffered enough humiliation and has been a victim of the 'grass is greener on the otherside' syndrome. His career is pretty much finished and he will be sold in the summer as Roman ramps up his pursuit of Falcao.

They are both at Chelsea now, so explain to me what the difference is?

One left because he wanted more money and a chance to win trophies, and the other has joined because he wants..........money........and......a chance to win trophies  ??? Wait what are we arguing about here?

Yeah I can blame him for taking the Chelsea job its called integrity and I'm sorry if my moral point of view conflicts with yours.

No one was holding a gun to his head to join Chelsea, his family aren't starving and aren't in desperate need of money  :upside:

I just feel very uneasy about someone who helped us build a rivalry with Chelsea over the last 10 years and now goes and sleeps in their bed. Very uneasy.

I guess we see the world differently.

And as for him being a "legend", that is the calling card of any Rafa cultist. Sorry to burst your bubble mate but he never won a premier league title, so in my book he falls a bit short from being a Liverpool legend.

He had his moments, Istanbul 2005 being the best of them. But legend, he was not.

I find it laughable that some apparent LFC newbie fans think are a few games against Chelsea in the European Cup amounts to a rivalry.....manu and the bluesh**e are the "rivals"; everyone else is dependant on league position etc and can vary from season to season...chelsea are a plastic club...who cares who there manager is....he won't last

Rafa  Benitez will be back home on the Wirral come the summer

With regards to Legends that have managed Liverpool Benitez has earned his status .. the only manager who failed any sort of respectful regard on Merseyside is Roy Hodgson...primarily because he was a 3rd rate hasbeen stop gap manager.... I'm sure Chelsea Plastics have the same respect for Benitez as some of his critics on this forum.....but thats plastic for yer

It still bothers me that some of our own fans refuse to give him the legendary status that he deserves.  When he arrived at Liverpool, he didnt exactly inherit the kinda side that Paisley or Kenny did.  There wasn't a bunch of fantastic young players waiting to break through to the first team.  The squad was full of limited players like Traore, Biscan, Mellor, Pongolle, Le Tallec etc.

He still got us to 2 Champions League finals, an FA Cup and closer than any manager to winning us a PL.  All of this with much less resources than the likes of United, Chelsea, Barca or Madrid.  With a slightly bigger budget who knows what we might have achieved...

Even now that he's gone a few years, half our senior players and young players were still brought to the club by him.

Any manager going to a new club will say something like this....but after what Rafa has said about that club in the past it dont work.

I think this situation is very simple.

Rafa was the manager that gave me the 2 best nights of my life. CL win and 4-1 win against Man U (incidentally my wedding night).  For that and many more I will always consider him as a legend. I do not care what he does now, I doubt he will disrespect the club.

I could not care less what he does at chelsea.

Who cares.... he isn't our manager and I am in no doubt he still holds a great affinity to our club....what he says or what some spin doctor at chavski says on his behalf is totally irrelavant in my life.......

he is taking a russian ransom for a few months work..... I would myself and tell the russian he is the life and soul of every party and he has a nice big yacht...

Chelsea plastics ...do you really care

Nonsense, Rodgers will still be here next summer. It's ridiculous that supporters are already turning their back on Rodgers.

Rafa is getting a very first hand view of how Chelsea work, and how shallow that club are. The best thing Rafa can do is quit right before he leads them to a final or a vital match in the premiership.

How satisfying would that be?
