Liverpool have made enquiries for Fiorentina's former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi.

The Italy international has a £28million release clause but Liverpool will hope to drive the price down for the 27-year-old.

He has had a succession of knee ligament injuries but bounced back to score 16 goals in 22 games last season.

Born in the USA, Rossi shot to prominence at Parma before United snapped him up at 17. He began to shine in the reserve team but the competition for first team places was such that they agreed to sell him to Villarreal for £7m in 2007.

He had a successful spell in La Liga and Tottenham tried to sign him prior to a knee injury in 2011.

Rossi can play off a main striker and can lead the line. Although only 5ft 8ins tall he has strength and great technique combined with pace and an obvious eye for goal.

His knees will be a concern following the collapse of Loic Remy's deal but his track record intimates he would be a success at Anfield if a deal can be struck.

Not convinced with Rossi. Italians usually don't do well in the premier league except for di cannio and zola. The difference in style btw serie A and the EPL is too much...just look what happened to aquilani... He is a very good player in serie A but couldn't adapt to the premier league...

Liverpool have got the green light to sign Ezequiel Lavezzi after he turned down a new contract at Paris Saint Germain - and was told to leave.

Lavezzi has struggled to cement a regular slot in the PSG team since his arrival from Napoli, but amid growing speculation over his future, the French giants offered him a new contract this week.

But Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio says that Lavezzi's agent Alejandro Mazzoni turned it down during a meeting in Paris and now an angry PSG are ready to offload him, with Liverpool in pole position.

The Reds have already made a £17.9million offer for the player and now look set to conclude a deal with PSG keen for him to go.

Juventus and Inter Milan have also been linked with Lavezzi but it's claimed that both clubs only want a loan deal, while PSG want a permanent cash offer, like Liverpool are proposing.

Can't understand why we're after Romero. From what I saw in the Would Cup he's similar to Mignolet. Don't want him at all to be honest. We missed out big time for not going after Diego Lopez on a free transfer.

I'm not too keen on Giuseppe Rossi either. The guy's a sick note and also it'a a big risk signing Italians. Too expensive considering the risks.

I rate Lavezzi but that's a high fee for a 29-year-old. The player will probably ask for high wages as well.

We're in a really difficult situation by the looks of it. Should have just signed Remy and get it done with.

The club pulled out of the aren't deal because he failed a medical. No one signs a player who fails a medical

I know what happened mate, I'm just that desperate. All the other options we're looking at are either too expensive or not good enough. Or both.

Luis Muriel is young but has big question marks over his fitness. Picks up injuries and struggles to keep the weight off. Likes his food and drink a bit too much by all accounts

Tony Pulis has left Palace which is a bit of a shock especially considering the job he did last year. With the new season kicking off in less than 48 hours the timing couldn't be much worse from their point of view.
Mark Robins signed Coady and then lost his job at Huddersfield and now Pulis signs Kelly and loses his job..... don't be too surprised if Poyet pulls out of the Borini deal :D

Kelly was only saying today how he was looking to start work under Pulis. Silly move from Palace, Pulis performed a miracle keeping them up and finishing midtable. Hope Kelly does well there, lad is due some luck after his injury problems

Liverpool are confident of finally signing Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony with a new bid set to be lodged in the coming days.

The Reds have already seen a £12.5million offer rejected by the Swans, but Brendan Rodgers is not giving up and is planning a new move.

According to the Daily Express, a new bid of about £16million is set to be lodged and Rodgers believes it will be enough to sign the Ivory Coast international.

Bony's reported wage demands will make the switch difficult but he is said to be keen on moving to Anfield, so there could be wriggle room.

Liverpool are in desperate need of another quality centre forward following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, and Bony has always been the first-choice.

The 25-year-old scored 17 goals in 34 games last season and has also been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea.

Liverpool are looking to complete a stunning move for Paris St-Germain striker Ezequiel Lavezzi after opening talks with Sampdoria for Argentina international Sergio Romero.

The Reds are still in the market for a striker and Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that he can add Lavezzi to his growing ranks.

Reports in Italy claim that the former Napoli man has turned down a new contract with the French club, and that PSG are now looking to move him on as they look to fund a bid for Angel Di Maria.

Lavezzi's compatriot Romero could also be set for a move to Anfield, with Liverpool looking to provide competition for first-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
