He has played a total of 12 prem games in the last two seasons

If you want to use cbs being exposed and goals being let in against them due to his awful defending then Carra and Agger would be gone after last season.

Guess how many times we lost when Coates played last season in the prem - have a look at this and see if it helps you out

drop the attitude cu.nt

answer properly and I'll oblige. you need to have a look at yourself.

As for Coates, he looks vunerable every time he plays.

I guess you didn't look at the link then.

i wouldnt say he has and thats including sub appearances. you are making out that he is a serial failure every week with how many chances should he need, how many teams exposing him and all the goals he cost us
he will go and it wont be because he is a poor footballer but because he never stood a chance under rodgers.

I still think Coates could be a very useful defender if retained ,its no secret the lad was chucked unceremoniously into the deep end at Oldham
and even Skrtel is still feeling the effects of the repercussions from that particular game.

Skrtel out, Greek guy in fits with the way things are going.

Older, high earners leaving and younger players with lower wages coming in (Even Kolo is younger than Carra and will be on lower wages).

It makes perfect financial sense, only time will tell if it works on the pitch.

Being pretty much at a £0 net spend so far, I think every fan hopes and wishes for that one (or two) big signing to show that we are intent on getting at least fourth and moving forward, not just balancing the books.

agreed.
both players suffered after that game and in fairness they were made scapegoats for a poor showing. that day was sad on all levels from the starting 11 to the tactics and then the result. no one showed up that day until gerrard stepped on to the pitch.
i think that game was on a monday and on tuesday tony barrett announces on twitter that skrtel was going to be dropped for the arsenal game on sunday after his performance.
i really doubt either player will be with us after the window closes.

Yep the Oldham game was a f*ck up from the manager in terms of selection and tactics - Rafa learned from his early f*ck up in the FA Cup - hopefully BR will.

Skrtel needs to be sold because we can get a good fee for him

Would like to see Coates sent on loan for a season

To be fair though, Carra didn't do much wrong when he came back into the team and the defence looked a lot better.  (Except the Europa league game were Carra's mistake cost us)  Carra was also a bit rusty when he was thrown back in.  We then had a good end to the season.

Its possibly a bit harsh on Skrtel + Coates, but the results and Carra's performances prove we were better without either in the team.  And we had no cup games left to throw them in for.

Sadly it looks like panning out that way ,and I still believe Skrtel and Coates could both be  stalwarts in the right team ...I feel more for Coates as his
star was firmly on the rise  before he signed for us.

Oldham was pretty shocking but it wasn't the only game Coated underperformed. He has pretty skillful footwork but his main weakness is his reaction and speed ,and don't won't change.
Time after time he mistimed the tackle ,lost track of the attackers and found himself burnt and gone. Sticking your leg at the right moment is crucial for a successful CB. Coates is just slow.

I think given the time allotted to his Liverpool career he has hardly been given a fair crack of the whip ,or the time to adjust to the
English game, yet in a fair few games for the reds I thought he showed a burgeoning promise. Maybe if he had been afforded the
opportunity to play in a settled defence we would be talking in a very different light about the lads Liverpool career.

oh come on Coates had plenty of chances and dissapointed in most of them, not good enough but maybe he'll improve, not sure though.

he was a c@ck up waiting to happen and in the short time he played it usually did happen. Careless, hapless, awkward and brash.

can't remember the other 3 dwarfs names...  ha ha

Mirror are saying that Skirtel to Napoli is a loan deal, if this is true then makes no sense

Rafael Benitez is close to bringing Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel to Napoli.

The 28-year-old will initially join the Serie A runners-up on loan, but the Reds are insisting on a clause that makes the deal permanent if the Slovakian captain remains fit.

Skrtel had previously vowed to fight for his first-team place at Anfield but will now settle for a reunion with Pepe Reina.

Brendan Rodgers is continuing his attempts to re-model Liverpool's squad, and has signed plenty of attacking talent this summer.

However, the Reds' defence has not seen too many reinforcements and Skrtel's departure will force Rodgers back into the market for another centre-back.

Benfica's Lorenzo Melgarejo is expected to shortly be confirmed as a one-year loan signing in a bid to provide cover for Jose Enrique on the left side of defence.

The Echo are reporting that it is a £7M deal. I agree that loan makes no sense and £7M is too low, consider he was linked with a £25M move to City not so long ago.
