Do you really expect anything different to happen

That will be their second quality signing of the summer moving them further away from us. That's Spurs showing their intent and ambition. £40mil plus on two players

To be fair, look's increasingly likely Bale will be off to Madrid. If he goes, they will be weaker, even with those new players

But you have to think they will get £80-£100 million for Bale which will be used towards making their team/squad even stronger.

With our signings so far I'd expect us finishing 6/7.. We are so far behind city, united, chelsea, arsenal and spurs its frustrating. We NEED that marque signing to lift our ambitions.

Spurs paid peanuts (3.6m) for Bale and that would be great business for them as they would re-invest all the money back into the team -Liverpool/Arsenal they are NOT.  :glare:

No idea why we are supposedly looking for a left back when we have one and cover as well.

We need a left back so that Robinson can spend the season out on loan playing every week. With no Europe there will be very few chances for players who are providing cover. Loaning a left back is the perfect solution. Don't think Enrique has a long term future in the first team under Rogers in any case.

But we have GJ who can play left back ( in fact just as well as he does at RB ) . Agree that Robbo needs a loan spell but think the need for a top quality CB is higher than a LB.

And why loan signings ? If he really wants a LB then go and buy one. Why are we loaning players ?

I agree with Benny there. Not the loaning players part but about signing a new LB. We already have 4 good fullbacks in Johnson, Enrique, Kelly and Wisdom and we also have 2 youngsters; Robinson and Flanagan. And there's also that kid, Ryan McLaughlin. We're good with the fullbacks, we should concentrate our time, money and effort on strengthening other positions.

McLaughlin is going to be a quality player - perfect replacement for Johnson.

Guessing the plan is to send Robinson out on loan for the year, get some game time, bring in some cover at LB on loan for the year, and next season (hopefully) Robinson will be pushing for Enrique's spot. Makes sense to me.

Have to disagree here.  Overlapping full backs are really important to the way Rodgers sets out his team.  The full backs almost play like wingers at times.  Only Johnson and Enrique do this effectively.  Kelly and Wisdom have potential as centre backs but full backs they are not, they offer very little in the attacking third and would limit us the way the team is set out.  I don't think McLaughlin or Robinson are ready for extended runs in the team and I am not convinced Flanagan is good enough.  The fact Rodgers played Downing at LB at times last season shows what he sees the full back's role as - getting forward as much as possible.

We've been heavily linked with Lorenzo Melgarejo, a LB from Benfica. I guess we've serious about this loaning a left back thing.

We need a left back, Enrique can be a bit inconsistent to say the least.
I don't like this switching flanks situation with Johnson, he is a right back not a left back.
How Kelly will fit in remains to be seen.

I don't think Flanagan and Robinson have come good just yet, probably need a spell on loan for regular football.
