The pacey winger joined Porto in 2004 from Barcelona where he failed to make a huge impact. However the 23 year old's career has taken off since his move to Portugal. He is one of the most highly rated wingers in Europe and has become the subject of much transfer speculation.

The rumours over Quarema's future had died down for the last few months, but now that reports have emerged today that he wants to leave the club, it looks as though Liverpool may try make another £15 million bid for the Portuguese international.

I personally think that he would be a great signing for Liverpool especially with their need of natural winger. It is also thought that if they don't manage to snatch up Quaresma, David Bentley would be another possible £8.5 million target for the Merseysiders.

Even more of a possibility as Porto have been kicked out of the Champions League for next season.

June 2, 2008

Many Liverpool fans seem to believe that one of the missing pieces of the Anfield puzzle is more creativity and flair on the wings to help feed Torres and others goal-poachers. With that in mind, a long-term target appears to be back on the cards.

Ricardo Quaresma, a £15m target for Liverpool, has declared he wants to leave Porto. (Metro)
The Portuguese international said: “I have never hidden that I would like to play for a foreign club again,” Quaresma said after the game. “It is time to leave, I have publicly expressed that wish many times. Let’s see what happens.” (Goal.com)

24-year-old Ricky Q (a new nickname) didn’t fare too well the last time he left his homeland to seek his fortune, his time at Barcelona being blighted by injury and average displays. Over the past four years at Porto, he has performed outstandingly to help his side to three successive titles, so it’s understandable he wants to move on. Do Liverpool fans want him to move and join Rafa’s title chase?

Porto have now been thrown out of Europe, their could be a possibility for this one?

just saw the post above!

If Quaresma comes, it'll all boil down to the great duo of Gerrard and Carra to discipline him. If Ferguson could discipline Ronaldo, I believe Quaresma can be well-schooled in the Liverpool way.

Anyhow, our trasnfer targets are beginning to look more exciting... is this a hint of DIC to come?

Quaresma is too inconsistent, thats why Barca got rid, he falls over too much and isn't a team player, poor mans Ronaldo imo, I wouldnt pay more than £8m for him!!

Doubt it mate..... They didn't do too well with Bellamy did they?

Still, I don't know too much about his attitude so can't really make an informed comment. However, if he does come with baggage and stigma, then it could be detrimental to the club. Have seen him play before a couple of times and he does strike me as a prima donna type player.... seems a little individualistic and selfish.....

Why, for FFS, would it be up to Carra and Gerrard to "discipline" a new signing ? Rubbish ! That's the manager's job

i don't know how true this one is ( it was in my local paper this morning ) but i heard that kuyt might be involved in the barry switch

e.g. kuyt plus cash for barry ??

i have to say i would do that and as we all know crouch is off anyway we could get a few more pounds from his sale to who ever

I agree with you paul, he has a sweet right foot and his crossing is fantastic, but his attitude, work ethic and aggression is p!ss poor.

I would get him for 7m

Toffeehater wrote:Liverpool after £10m centre back of real quality: United want him as well!

June 3, 2008

It seems that 90% of all transfer rumours centre around La Liga, and this could be because that league is possibly the second best on the planet, or more likely that managers like Rafa and Juande (managers of the two clubs who generate the most speculation) are of course Spanish! Anyway, here’s the latest scoop.

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan is said to be keen on Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta, who is also attracting interest from Premiership rivals Liverpool. Bilbao have responded and are said to be ready to offer the player a new deal in an attempt to ward off interest from both clubs. (Clubcall)

The 22-year-old Venezuelan had a great season at Bilbao, who may have finished mid-table but still had one of the best defensive records in the league. Newcastle could well do with a solid centre back or two, but how much cash does Kev have to spend? Do either set of fans feel that Fernando is a wise investment or will only a really big name player cut the mustard?

Because they're captain and vice-captain and have every right to do so? Anyways, I mean discipline like not diving too often, putting heart and soul into training and games etc. Keeping the lot focused on the gaffer's tactics and the game basically  :)
Also I don't see Rafa as the hair-dryer type of character. He seems like the type who will probably nag and nag sense into wayward players until its drilled deep in.

Bellamy wise, I thought Bellamy was pretty well behaved and played decently for us. Pennant was supposed to be naughty also but he also was disciplined. I'm comparing both of them to Nani.

I really don't think Liverpool will have much problems handling wayward players in terms of footballing. Historically we have a pretty good track record. Stan Collymore comes to mind but he did perform quite well during his stint and when he was deemed undisciplinable, offloaded and his career killed. A statistic which Rafa will sure be informing Quaresma IF he comes on board and gives attitude.
