Juventus chief executive, Jean Claude Blanc, has revealed the club will not be signing a left-back and thus has closed the door on Liverpool’s John Arne Riise.

The Norwegian left-back was linked with a move to the Bianconeri who are currently reinforcing their squad ahead of their Champions League return.

Riise’s future at Anfield is looking in doubt and reports in Italy claimed that Juve were paying close attention to the stopper.

However, the Bianconeri have revealed that they have no intention of signing a left-back.

“I can confirm that we will keep the left hand side of our defence as it is,” said Blanc.

“Cristian Molinaro and Paolo De Ceglie will be competing for the left-back place as they are two players who we have plenty of faith in.

“We want to show everyone that we can go far with our own home-grown players.”

The Bianconeri have already captured Albin Ekdal as well as Amauri and they are currently in talks over Xabi Alonso’s availability from the Reds.

Juventus president, Giovanni Cobboli Gigli, has in the past stated his intentions to focus on youth and it seems as if his philosophy is being adhered to by his directors.

Is this the same bloke who said they wouldn't buy anyone just before they signed Sissoko?

Liverpool pair wanted in £20m United raid: Don’t do it Rafa!

June 3, 2008

Rafa Benitez seems keen to bring in a host of new talent so it follows therefore that he is intent on clearing out those who are surplus to requirements, but should that list include both of these?

Newcastle United are being linked with a possible move for £20m rated Liverpool pair Peter Crouch and John Arne Riise.
As Kevin Keegan looks to strengthen his Newcastle squad, there is speculation that he copuld mount a double bid for his old club’s striker Peter Crouch and full-back John Arne Riise. (Goal.com)

Peter Crouch clearly loves the club but he won’t stick around if he a) isn’t wanted by Rafa and b) doesn’t get a fair crack of the whip with more meaningful Premier League starts. Riise is another issue entirely as his time at the club has come to a logical end and whilst he served the Reds well in the past he is now someway below the player he once was. Do Liverpool fans want Rafa B to keep Crouch at the club?

Aston Villa's Gareth Barry looks increasingly likely not to be at Villa Park next season after hinting that he has to be playing Champions League football to be a first team regular for England.

The 27 year old has been heavily linked with Liverpool for the last few weeks, however, Villa boss Martin O'Neill feels Benitez' £10 million valuation of the England international is too little. Barry, though, who has played more than 320 games for Villa, appears to be nearing an exit after stating that he needs to be playing Champions League football to ensure he is always in and around the England set up.

It is thought that out of favour Liverpool striker Peter Crouch could be going the opposite way to Barry and could be used as a part exchange for the Villa captain. I think that Barry would be a fantastic signing for The Reds but only one which should be completed if Xabi Alonso leaves.

Liverpool after £10m centre back of real quality: United want him as well!

June 3, 2008

It seems that 90% of all transfer rumours centre around La Liga, and this could be because that league is possibly the second best on the planet, or more likely that managers like Rafa and Juande (managers of the two clubs who generate the most speculation) are of course Spanish! Anyway, here’s the latest scoop.

Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan is said to be keen on Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta, who is also attracting interest from Premiership rivals Liverpool. Bilbao have responded and are said to be ready to offer the player a new deal in an attempt to ward off interest from both clubs. (Clubcall)

The 22-year-old Venezuelan had a great season at Bilbao, who may have finished mid-table but still had one of the best defensive records in the league. Newcastle could well do with a solid centre back or two, but how much cash does Kev have to spend? Do either set of fans feel that Fernando is a wise investment or will only a really big name player cut the mustard?

Liverpool prepare improved £14m offer in battle for Barry
Liverpool are to intensify efforts to prise Gareth Barry from Aston Villa by increasing their £10m offer to bring the England midfielder to Anfield. Their manager, Rafael Benítez, who is hoping to force through the sale of Xabi Alonso to Juventus before the European Championship commences this weekend, has been encouraged by Barry's public admission that he wishes to play in the Champions League and has instructed a second bid for the 27-year-old.

Liverpool had a complex offer of cash plus, in the words of Martin O'Neill, "a mishmash of nameless players in exchange", rejected out of hand by the Villa manager two days before the final game of the Premier League season. The timing of that offer, and particularly

Liverpool's willingness to make their approach public, infuriated O'Neill, who still hopes to commit his captain to a new long-term contract at Villa Park.

Speaking after England's friendly win against Trinidad & Tobago, Barry revealed he hoped to clarify his future with O'Neill this week. Even if Barry rejects an increase on his existing £47,000-a-week wage at Villa and an extension to a contract that has two years remaining, however, Benítez's hopes of a swift resolution to an acrimonious transfer appear optimistic.

Liverpool's initial £10m-rated bid fell short of O'Neill's valuation and while their second offer is expected to be worth in the region of £14m, again with players such as Scott Carson and John Arne Riise offered in exchange, Villa want closer to £18m.

Benítez is confident of swelling his transfer budget by holding out for £16m for Alonso, although that rests on the Spain international's desire to call time on his four-year Anfield career in favour of a move to Italy. Alonso has a five-year contract offer on the table from the Italian club, who had an initial bid for the midfielder rejected by Liverpool a fortnight ago. The 26-year-old would prefer a return to Spain but, in the absence of serious interest from his homeland, will have little option but to accept Juventus' offer.

One deal with fewer complications is Liverpool's pursuit of the Udinese left-back Andrea Dossena. Though the Italians want £8m for the 26-year-old and Liverpool initially offered £6m, the defender is close to completing his move to Anfield.

Liverpool were reported last night to have approached Manchester City's chief executive, Alistair Mackintosh, regarding him moving to Anfield. The move would cast doubt on the future of Rick Parry, who was called upon to resign by the club's co-owner Tom Hicks last season.

Everton's manager, David Moyes, is considering a move for West Bromwich Albion's out-of-contract Zoltan Gera. The Hungarian is among several midfielders Moyes is pursuing, although he is not one of the Scot's top targets.

Porto winger Ricardo Quaresma has today declared that he wants to leave Porto according to reports in the Metro today.

The pacey winger joined Porto in 2004 from Barcelona where he failed to make a huge impact. However the 23 year old's career has taken off since his move to Portugal. He is one of the most highly rated wingers in Europe and has become the subject of much transfer speculation.

The rumours over Quarema's future had died down for the last few months, but now that reports have emerged today that he wants to leave the club, it looks as though Liverpool may try make another £15 million bid for the Portuguese international.

I personally think that he would be a great signing for Liverpool especially with their need of natural winger. It is also thought that if they don't manage to snatch up Quaresma, David Bentley would be another possible £8.5 million target for the Merseysiders.

Liverpool close in on £30m pair: ONE Good, ONE Overrated

June 2, 2008

Rafa clearly seems to be planning for the future, a future which could well include a homegrown player rule change and therefore it’s no surprise that Liverpool are being linked with more and more English talent, these two often cited players are apparently a lot nearer to leaving their current clubs.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has £30m rated pair David Bentley and his England colleague Gareth Barry high on his summer shopping list. Offers for the Villa man could include a swap deal with Scott Carson moving to Villa Park, Bentley would be in a straight cash deal(various)

Blackburn are lining up Michael Kightly as a Summer target to repalce David Bentley who is increasingly looking Liverpool bound according to reports. (The Non-League Paper)

Gareth Barry has shown yet again in the past two England internationals that he is at his peak and it’s no surprise that the big boys have come calling for him as they will know all too well that the Villa skipper will have ambitions that his current side can’t necessarily match. David Bentley also has ambitions, but I really do think he is overrated and any move would be a mistake. Which of these two would Liverpool fans most welcome in a Reds shirt?

Liverpool nearer to £15m wing wizard: Class player who could do wonders for Rafa!

June 2, 2008

Many Liverpool fans seem to believe that one of the missing pieces of the Anfield puzzle is more creativity and flair on the wings to help feed Torres and others goal-poachers. With that in mind, a long-term target appears to be back on the cards.

Ricardo Quaresma, a £15m target for Liverpool, has declared he wants to leave Porto. (Metro)
The Portuguese international said: “I have never hidden that I would like to play for a foreign club again,” Quaresma said after the game. “It is time to leave, I have publicly expressed that wish many times. Let’s see what happens.” (Goal.com)

24-year-old Ricky Q (a new nickname) didn’t fare too well the last time he left his homeland to seek his fortune, his time at Barcelona being blighted by injury and average displays. Over the past four years at Porto, he has performed outstandingly to help his side to three successive titles, so it’s understandable he wants to move on. Do Liverpool fans want him to move and join Rafa’s title chase?

Liverpool star heads for £17m exit: Top class player, shame he is leaving

June 2, 2008

It appears that one Liverpool player has probably played his last game for the club and, even though Rafa should get a decent return for the player, it does seem a shame that his time at Anfield has come to such a limping conclusion.

Juventus are back in talks with Liverpool over midfielder Xabi who is edging nearer to a possible move to Italy. The two clubs are yet to agree a fee for the Spaniard with Liverpool holding out for a fee in the region of £17m. (Channel 4 Football Italia)

After four years roaming the Liverpool midfield, demonstrating what a great a player he is, it seems that Xabi is on his way out. Do Liverpool fans feel that he should have stayed? Or are there other players more suitable for the team than the Spaniard?

City Chief To Replace Parry?
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry appears destined to leave the club, as his Manchester City counterpart has reportedly been approached for the Anfield job…

Parry’s position came under serious threat when Reds co-owner Tom Hicks called for his resignation earlier this year, branding the CEO’s reign a failure as the club have fallen behind the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal on both commercial and performance fronts.

And according to the Daily Mail, Hicks and co are keen to effect Parry’s dismissal during the off-season and draft in City chief Alistair Mackintosh.

Mackintosh’s role at Eastlands has become unclear since the appointment of executive chairman Gary Cook, and a move to Merseyside could prove extremely tempting given the boardroom instability that has rocked City since Thaksin Shinawatra took control of the club.

Parry’s job could be saved if Hicks loses his battle with co-owner George Gillett for executive control of Liverpool. But if the Texan can convince his estranged business partner to relinquish his 50 per cent stake in the club, Parry will almost certainly receive his marching orders.

It is believed Hicks has been impressed by Mackintosh’s efforts to raise City’s profile prior to Thaksin Shinawatra taking control last summer.

And with the Reds preparing to move into a new stadium across the road in Stanley Park, the 37-year-old’s experience relocating the Sky Blues to the City of Manchester Stadium could prove a big plus as far as Hicks is concerned.

8 mil plus Crouch is a bit much I would have thought, closer to 3-5 mil.
Quaresma would be a great get but unfortunately I don't see it happening.
Bentley would be a good buy as well and while he is possibly a tad over rated, I'm sure he hasn't peaked as a player yet and joining a club like LFC could only enhance his development.
