Liverpool close in on bargain buy: Looks like a decent signing

April 30, 2008

It appears that Rafa Benitez is getting nearer and nearer to picking a new right back on a free.

Liverpool are a step closer to landing Borussia Dortmund fullback Philipp Degen on a Bosman.
The 25-year-old is believed to be signing for Liverpool on July 1 after his contract with the Dortmund comes to an end. (various)

The 25 year old appears to be more of a squad player than a spectacular signing especially as Rafa has a number of players to pick from in that position. However does this signing mean that Rafinha is no longer a potential target? What do Liverpool fans think?

Villa looks set to leave La Mestalla in the summer after a disappointing campaign for Valencia.

The Spanish international is expected to be offloaded as Los Che look to ease their financial problems after missing out on qualification for next season's Champions League.

Reports in Spain have suggested Spurs made an enquiry for Villa only for the player to decline their interest.

Villa is believed to have set his heart on a move to Valencia's La Liga rivals Real Madrid, with the Spanish champions keen on luring the forward to the Bernabeu.

Real are thought to be ready to offer Julio Baptista in part-exchange in an attempt to persuade Valencia to do business for their prize asset.

Villa's agent Jose Luis Tamargo admits there are a number of clubs chasing the striker, but says Valencia will make the final decision on the player's future.

"There are many clubs interested in Villa, but Valencia decides his future," Tamargo told Marca.

Valencia sporting director Juan Sanchez has revealed he plans to meet with Tamargo to discuss Villa's situation and he insists the club have received no offer for the former Real Zaragoza attacker.

"We have not received any concrete offer for Villa," said Sanchez.

"His agent has told us he has to discuss some issues with us but we have not had that meeting yet.

"Today Villa's price has not changed: his buy-out clause remains €130million (£100million).

I'm not entirely sure of Mancini now.

I thought he'd have been a quality signing last summer albeit on minimal viewing, but having seen him this year in the UCL, he just doesn't look like a winger to me. More like a forward, possibly a second striker.

I wouldn't favour us going for him as a main priority. If we could get the right player on the left wing, preferrably David Silva, along with a top-quality left-back or right winger, I'd been in favour of getting Mancini as a forward - but only if it was for a fee of circa £4m. I wouldn't, however, make him a main priority.

Liverpool beat Newcastle and Sunderland to Villa reject!!!

Liverpool have beaten off competition from Newcastle United and Sunderland to snap up Aston Villa reject Deale Chamberlain.

The 16 year old has signed a three year deal at Anfield after being told he wasnt tall enough by midlands giants Aston Villa.

Deale's father Mark told the Tamworth Herald: "I am delighted that my son has gone to a club with such a high stature like Liverpool.
"It's one step closer to his ambition of becoming the England number one.
"We had many offers from other big clubs.
"But we felt that Liverpool offered not only the best deal but also had the best facilities."
Kevin Keegan's Newcastle United and Sunderland were also interested in signing the young keeper.

Schalke General manager Andreas Muller insists there has no been no bid from Liverpool or any other club for the Brazilian full-back Rafinha.

“So far, I have not received any enquiries for the players,” Muller told Bild.

“We want to try and win the Champions League next season with both Jermaine Jones and Rafinha.”

Márcio Rafael Ferreira de Souza, or more known as Rafinha earlier revealed he would be interested in a summer move to Liverpool.

Riise move agreed?

Reports in the north of England are claiming Liverpool and Newcastle United have agreed a fee to sell the Norwegian.

They are claiming a £4m deal was reached 6 weeks ago after contract talks stalled between the club and the defender.

Around £30,000 a week is believed to be the agreed contract until 2011.

These reports have not been confirmed by any of the two clubs involved in the dealings. There are rumours that Liverpool are offering Aston Villa first refusal and a cut-price fee providing they allow Gareth Barry to sign.

Reports in Spain are suggesting Rafa is about to splash upto £10million on a new left-back, with Barcelona’s Eric Abidal firmly in his sights.

“There is change in all clubs and it’s correct we’ve not had an entirely successful season, for now I’m here, if ever the club chooses to sell me, we’ll see.” said the French international who looks set to leave Camp Nou in the summer.

apparently Ramsey is being courted by everyone in England, he broke Toshack's record at Cardiff for youngest to ever play at the club, he is still just 17 years old, but yea in that context, it is quite depressing. :(

I forgot to mention the Mancs have supposedly offered a £10million package for Ramsey as opposed to our £3million bid.  :(
