Darren bent - Good enough

Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Liverpool had 4 magnificent strikers in Kenny, Rushie, Fowler and Owen (before we was knackered). Instinctive predators, never considered they couldnt score, everything was possible, a game was never lost. Strong willed, even arrogant, dominated the box, could turn a game in 5 seconds of brilliance. Put the fear of god into opponents who had to put double cover on them which upset the other teams balance and allowed our midfield to build strong attacks. Good strikers dont just score gaols, they create the pattern of the game which the rest of the side exploit.

We dont need mediocre, half hearted, 4th rated strikers, we need match winners who tell Rafa to :censored: the rotation system, they want to play every week. Go explain rotation to Kenny or Rushie and see if you understand the answer.

Enough talk of sunday morning players, match winning predators only and lets not be shy to pay for them.

It would be great to get a player anywhere near the quality of the ones you mentioned, but as for any player telling Rafa to :censored: the rotation and then still be a liverpool player, is about as likely as me winning the lottery twice ( and i dont even play it ) ???

We all know that the rotation in the early part of the season cost us, but can you really see Rafa changing his ways on the say so of a new player ?

I know what you're saying in the same manner you know what I'm saying however picture Kenny is full mouthing mode on the field, really giving some poor sod a verbal blasting, or Rushie elbowing his way to the goal and poking it in and still giving the ref a gobbing (he always seemed to pick on refs for some reason), these guys were larger than life and the manager has to take that into account. Rafa has chopepd and changed and p.issed on the ego's of his players because he hasnt come across anyone special enough to put faith in and play week in week out - apart from the lad Gerrard....

True, i said in another thread its quality and not quantity we need, meaning we dont need a player who is happy to come here and pick his wages up by sitting out games every now and then on the bench, we need someone who wants to play every game. But finding a player who wants to play but also understands the rotation policy is going to be hard, Rafa simply has to STOP to the rotation in order to attract the top players.

Something has to give either we carry on roatating and attract mercinaries or average players OR we play our best 11 and have the best players in it

Yeah, mercenaries like SWP......... sadly not the only guy becoming a multi millionaire without kicking a ball.

You dont find the kind of lad we're looking for playing for a top european sides, they're already milking the cow for what its worth. You find them hungry playing one level down and are usually rough diamonds.  Wenger did a brilliant job to put his Arsenal teams together, as did Fffferguson however what they also have in common is many, many years as club manager. They played themselves into the job and Rafa will have to stay way past 2010 to achieve the same level of squad continuity. Every time you get a new manager he clears out the old and brings in the new killing that continuity. Houllier did it, as did Rafa !!

It emphasizes the massive role home and overseas scouts play.

If the player has true star quality I doubt they will be rotated. Gerrard doesn't get rotated neither does carra. A cristiano ronaldo would not get rotated.

Thats obviously part of our problem then, we dont have enough star quality players, but how long until we do, how many do we need to make the difference. Two have been named maybe three with Reina ?

We need at least 5 key players on the pitch at any one time - 1-2 upfront, 2 in midfield and 2 at the back .

Defenders seem to be rotated less, midfield slightly more and the front guys the most. Playing the rotation system we probably need 10 top notch players across all positions. How many do we hav today?

Finnan, JC, Agger, Xavi, SG, Masher, possibly Cute and Bellamy. We clearly have a loooong way to go to provide strength in depth as well as cover.

Quite simply we lack quality in the final third. Peopl wonder why we aren't close to the league yet but if you look at it: rooney, ronaldo, giggs, scholes and saha to our pennant, riise (can't say kewell as hes always injured), kuyt and crouch. Theres no comparison. I think we need at least two top drawer attackers. A striker and a winger.

Thats very true, if we were to bring in the likes of Eto, you wouldnt see him rotated!

Would like to see Henry join. He has been quoted say that Liverpool is the only other club than arsenal that he would play for.

But he wont leave wengers side, shame really.

Maybe SWP wants to prove he can make it at chelsea.  The kid isnt doing anything wrong and is trying to fight for his place in the side.

Steve McManaman was told he was surplus to requirements at Real but chose to stick it out and fight for his place.

The Golden Boy Michael Owen may well walk out of Newcastle after starting 16 games and making a fortune.  Thats a mercenary.
