decent player - no more.

You won't see Manure or Chelsea looking for him and they set the bar.

Enough tier 2 slightly cheaper purchases, I'd prefer 2 very good players than 5 "can do a job" players.

Just been looking at outher sites and apparently Liverpool have started a bidding war for Bent with Westham and Spurs. Bidding starts at 12 mil but charlton are holding out for 18mil  reporterdly what Westham offerd in Janurary.

He might be a handy fourth striker but I doubt Charlatans would let him go for less than £10m. I'm less adverse to the idea than some, he has scored goals in the top flight and looks a better choice than Crouch or Bellamy. He's also scored goals for a pretty ordinary side in the past couple of seasons although so had Crouch and Bellamy when we signed them

Premiership

2006/7

D.Bent - 12 goals in 30 appearances (0.400 goals/app)
C.Bellamy -  7 goals in 26 appearances (0.269 goals/app)
P.Crouch - 9 goals in 31 appearances (0.290 goals/app)

2005/6

D.Bent - 18 goals in 36 appearances (0.500 goals/app)
C.Bellamy - 13 goals in 27 appearances (0.481 goals/app)
P.Crouch - 8 goals in 32 appearances (0.250 goals/app)

2004/5

C.Bellamy - 7 goals in 21 appearances (0.333 goals/app)
P.Crouch - 12 goals in 27 appearances (0.444 goals/app)

Bent scored 19 goals in 45 appearances in 2004/5 (Championship)

Both clubs also set the bar for signing expensive cr ap which we emulated by signing Cisse and Heskey. Top dollar does not necessarily equal top quality, we've been stung by spending big before. Our best two strikers of the Premiership have cost nothing - Fowler and Owen. Two of the bigger waste of money strikers cost £25m between them

But say we fork out £12m for a Saha, £30m for a Shevchenko, £24m for a Drogba or £25m for a Rooney, you might just get two strikers for £40m

I've never felt he was a bad player, I just have my doubts that he'll find the space he needs to make an impact for us given how many sides insist on sitting deep and stiffling our play.  We need a "fox in the box" to work in tight quarters or one that can go on mazy runs and carve a team open.  I'm not sure Bent would have that in his locker.

He's a bit of a Cisse in my view. Sure, he's scored lots in this division, but its in a side that is pretty much built around him. Would it be the same here? No, just ask Craig Bellamy.

Does he not also take Charlatan's penalties? Gerrard has stepped up for these when Fowler wasn't on the pitch and so that is another string to his bow as it were. If this £15m bid for Sissoko becomes a goer and actual cash I'd be tempted to sign him up if the price is right (offer £7m, maybe be pushed up to £9m with winning titles in the clauses kind of thing) I mean people are loathe to the idea but Voronin could well prove to be a complete waster, no Premiership experience and an international scoring record that literally made me wince

Good point there spending big bucks does not necessarily mean a hat full of goals.

but we all know what Bent can do (or not do) I just don't see him being a top player for this club its to big he is more a Spurs player in my book.

Don't teams have to have a certain amount of English players in their 1st team squad in the near future(not sure of which season) so Bent would also tick that box.

He's no better or a step up in class above Bellamy imo.

would swap him for kuyt
would swap him for bellamy
would swap him for crouch

wouldnt go out and buy him if we already have 3 strikers and only need 1 more.

good player but not the kind of player to rely on to lead ur forward line.
way i see it, he'd be another striker in the roster to be rotated just like kuyt/bellamy/crouch were this season.

wouldnt cost less than michael owen imo and the difference in abilities is monumental.
