Liverpool on alert as Raul is tipped to leave Real Madrid on a free this summer
Liverpool have been linked with a shock move for Real Madrid icon Raul.
The 32-year-old is no longer a regular at the Bernabeu, starting just nine of 29 La Liga games since Manuel Pellegrini became boss in the summer.
And the Madrid captain, who has played more than 700 games for the Spanish giants, could be set for a summer exit.
Raul has previously suggested he would be tempted by a shot a Barclays Premier League football before the end of his career and Liverpool are said to be offering a two-year contract.
There has also been long-standing interest from the United States, where Raul could net a luctative swansong, but the Anfield option would be tempting if he feels his time at Madrid has come to a natural end.
However, it should be noted that Liverpool's interest emanates from the Catalan press rather than the Spanish capital, and Raul has not spoken out against his treatment by Pellegrini.
Rafa Benitez would be looking for a free transfer for Raul, though Madrid have him on 'lifetime contract' and it is suggested they would be more amenable to him leaving for the MLS.
