It will be great news if he signs. Although i do believe that Barcelona would rather sign Fabregas ahead of masch.

Watching Masch against Blackburn last Sunday made me realise we can't lose this guy to Barca.  He was brilliant.  One of our true stars, right up there with Pepe (who was also brilliant), Stevie and Nando.  Stay Masch.  Next year for the title.

You cant compare Fabregas and Masher, the arsenal lad is a worldclass playmaker, Masher is a Souness style midfield dominator/enforcer (with far less vision and passing ability). Lets hope he signs but we still need to buy in quality.

Mascherano has admitted that discussions are ongoing with the club and insisted he was awaiting a response having made his terms known.

"I'm waiting for an answer from Liverpool," he said.

"They know what I want so it depends on them and not me. We have been talking about the contract."

Disappointed me today. His decision making was very poor and wastes to much energy on the refs.

Liverpool confident of Javier Mascherano deal   Tuesday, 23 March 2010 12:12

Contract talks with Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano are edging closer to a resolution but manager Rafael Benitez accepts there is still a little more work to do.

The two parties have been talking over a new deal for the Argentina captain for some time and Benitez is confident the matter will be resolved to both their satisfaction.

Mascherano, whose current contract still has nearly two years to run, was a target for Barcelona last summer and Liverpool are keen to tie him to a new long-term contract to prevent another close season of speculation, especially in a World Cup year.

Spain goalkeeper Jose Reina will sign his new deal in the next three weeks to join the likes of Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Agger in committing their future to the Reds.

'We were talking, progressing and we're closer now. Still we need to talk a little bit but we are closer,' said Benitez.

'It would be very important for the club. We have some important players with some years left on their contracts and this could be another one. It's very important that we're keeping the spine of the team.'

i just hope it gets sorted before the world cup. we need to tie him down now before all the big clubs in europe start sniffing around again.

I think we should sell Mascherano and buy someone else
I really dont think that he is much good
In Liverpool, he's gotten the most red cards this season
He gave the penalty against Man u and i dont think that he maked a major difference
I think we should sell him and get someone else with tht money

If we sold him it would be one step forwards and two steps backwards.

We would get around £30 Mill for him and the owners would probably allow us to spend 20 of that. Then we need to find somebody to replace him and its risky business getting players for that money from other leagues. Maybe Yaya Toure would be a decent replacement but id rather stick with Masch.

When he is on form this guy is huge for us in big matches.

true, but at least try to buy someone just like tht
cause I keep on getting sad when Masch gets the ball
It's a 50/50 thing with him

Mascherano staying with Liverpool
25 Mar 2010

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has pledged his future to the club and expects a new contract to be signed "in the next few weeks".

Securing the Argentina captain and goalkeeper Jose Reina on extended deals have been a priority of manager Rafael Benitez. With Reina close to finally concluding the deal it appears Mascherano will not be far behind him.

"The club are talking with my agents," said Mascherano, who was a reported target for Barcelona in the summer.

"I don't like to be involved in the contract meetings so I leave that to my agents and the people at the club.

"Liverpool know I want to stay. I don't think it will be difficult to arrive at a deal and we will see what happens in the next few weeks."

Benitez has always been confident the 25-year-old would extend his stay at Anfield despite speculation to the contrary and the player sees his future at Anfield.

"I have never said I was not happy at Liverpool. That was the press," said Mascherano, who has been one of the more consistent performers in a disappointing season - even when filling in as an emergency right-back on a couple of occasions.

"I am happy here and the only way I can show that is with my performances on the pitch.

"I always try to do everything I can to help my team-mates and manager. Sometimes I can do well and sometimes I can't, but I always look to give 100% in training and in games."
