Yes, Bigmick has a new medal, and I don't have problems to give it, but my concern still remains.
Why Lucas? And why not put some trust on Aquilani instead? correct me if I'm wrong, in the 4 league games that Aquilani played we won.
The point is, ok, he's not worth 20M or capable to replace Alonso, but better than Lucas? I mean come on?

Maybe when Rafa was a lad his favourite superhero was Aquaman.
Well it's as good an explanation as any other because it sure as feck wasn't for his footballing abilities.
Maybe you have been so lucky to have seen him play a full match...@ training maybe? Other than that I cant see how you were able to reach such a conclusion this early.
The lad needs games and he has made more contribution to the team than Lucas despite playing less.!!!
bigmick wrote:He is "better" than Lucas without a doubt, but as he offers absolutely nothing defensively I wouldn't play him either. Neither of them offer much going forward, neither of them distribute in a fashion which is likely to alter the flow of the match, Lucas though does get his foot in so I'd play him in front of Aquilani. The truth is neither of them are much good and it doesn't make an awful lot of odds which one you go with.

Mate, heimdall puts his foot in it more often than not. I'd suggest ignoring him...perhaps if enough of us do it, he might get the hint...

hmm, again advocating other people ignore me, I have actually been carded for that in the past, despite me doing it in jest.
I assume you'll go unpunished though.
Anyway what has drawn your ire this time, did I offend you by saying I don't like Aqualani, why just single me out over every other poster in this thread? What about Sabre, try having a pop at him, come on chum, I'm just trying to help you out of your rather unhealthy fixation with me, which is getting a bit tragic now.

Im baffled:
"Neither of them offer much going forward"
Aquilani assisted Kuyt for two goals the other week!
"neither of them distribute in a fashion which is likely to alter the flow of the match" Who would you expect him to distribute to? Ngog? Kuyt? Babel? None of who can hold up a ball to assist an attack
Every time he gets the ball and looks forward theres no-one there. Theyre either next to him or behind him.
What Ive seen of Aquilani is a player who wants to play forward and create chances but is being bogged down by Rafas "sludge tactics" This in turn makes him look like a waste of money because hes not spraying 60 yard passes which unlock defences.
I fear that Rafas stubbornness and control freakery will make Aquilani as ineffectual as Babel, Riera and Lucas are now

A couple of people have described him as being a "floater" and that's all good, but you've still got to have the determination to influence the play. For me he didn't do enough, didn't attempt enough, and didn't want it enough. I thought defensively he was absolutely powder puff, and I couldn't work out exactly what sort of player he is.
Based on that, I'm going to go out on a limb totally and say I don't think he'll be a good signing for us for 18-20 million quid. Early I know after one half fit performance, but that's what I think anyway. My money's on him going back to Italy at the end of next season.
And to think it was only two months ago that a post such as this one was so controversial. It may have been "way too early" then, but it seems it is no longer so.
