A couple of people have described him as being a "floater" and that's all good, but you've still got to have the determination to influence the play. For me he didn't do enough, didn't attempt enough, and didn't want it enough. I thought defensively he was absolutely powder puff, and I couldn't work out exactly what sort of player he is.

Based on that, I'm going to go out on a limb totally and say I don't think he'll be a good signing for us for 18-20 million quid. Early I know after one half fit performance, but that's what I think anyway. My money's on him going back to Italy at the end of next season.

And to think it was only two months ago that a post such as this one was so controversial. It may have been "way too early" then, but it seems it is no longer so.

Yeah it certainly likes like a good call even though it was very early mate! Still, i'm not sure reappearing with an 'I told ya so' will endear you anymore to your fan club dude.

Giev me a B, Give me an I etc etc etc  :D

Aquilani's lack of selection even though he is now fit says a lot for me, I don't think Rafa has got the player he was expecting otherwise he'd be playing agasint the likes of City, surely?

You see I don't understand this notion. They are completely different players. Players of Alonso's quality are rare. A lot of foreign players take at least a season to get used to this league and yet Alonso just came in and settled in like a duck to water. We were extremely lucky in that sense. Aquilani isn't here to play the Alonso role because his passing isn't as crisp as Alonso's and he doesn't read the game as well as Xabi did.

He's also not going to thrive in this team at the moment. Alonso played well and excelled when the team as a whole was playing well like last season. Aquilani does look to move the ball quickly when he can so will thrive when his teammates start creating some space and running into positions for him to pass to. At the moment we're so slow and lethargic in our bulid up play he's got no options a lot of the time. Everytime Gerrard does get the ball he's got 2 or 3 players around him and everytime he plays it wide we lose possession.

The debate is not whether he's worth 20 M. It's obvious his impact hasn't been as good as expected.

The problem I don't understand, is that if he needs matches, and needs adaptation, how on earth will he get it while Lucas is playing.

I didn't like Lucas whatsoever yesterday again. He dispairs me, sorry. And I just don't understand how another player, let alone aquilani, doesn't get half the trust Lucas has received so far. It's something I can't understand of Rafa this season.

Yesterday we got a result and got a clean sheet in a stadium who came from 7 victories in a row, I think. But I think Liverpool could do much better with the ball if Lucas wasn't on the pitch.

Maybe when Rafa was a lad his favourite superhero was Aquaman.

Well it's as good an explanation as any other because it sure as feck wasn't for his footballing abilities.  :sniffle

Maybe you have been so lucky to have seen him play a full match...@ training maybe? Other than that I cant see how you were able to reach such a conclusion this early.

The lad needs games and he has made more contribution to the team than Lucas  despite playing less.!!!

What buds me more is that we have Pacheco who obviously has class and had shown it in matches he had played so far. He costed only a fraction of what Aquaman costs and obviously more people rate Pacheco than him as I just don't see it in Aquaman. It is not about the adaptation to the EPL but whether the player has real class.   Maybe people will argue Pacheco had played in the reserve game and kind of have a taste of the kind of game to be played in England.  But if Pacheco showed he can play and why the hell is he still on the bench. Given the limited playing time in the starting 11, why not let the kid play as he had already shown he had played better than both Lucas and Aquilani. Aquilani is a wasted 20 million as he is a Lucas clone but only taller with black hair.... :D Since we can't change the situation now, we should ride with the ones that performed best and not blindly sticking to non factor player as we are fighting hard for 4th in the league. Please Rafa give Pacheco a couple of games to show what he can do as he would do no worse than Lucas and Aquilani for sure.

Yes, Bigmick has a new medal, and I don't have problems to give it, but my concern still remains.

Why Lucas? And why not put some trust on Aquilani instead? correct me if I'm wrong, in the 4 league games that Aquilani played we won.

The point is, ok, he's not worth 20M or capable to replace Alonso, but better than Lucas? I mean come on?
