I liked the guy when he was on top of his game, but now he's history. Portsmouth beckon to provide experience and stability, but we need to move forward, buy in a young, hungry and stong player.

We are comparing Voronin to Owen and you say Owen would be the weakest link? I know who I would prefer coming off the bench if we need one goal to clinch the title...... and it wouldn't be Tuncay, Voronin or N'gog mate. If we are talking about buying Tevez, Villa etc I wouldn't be arguing for Owen.

that's a very good idea... sell voronin while his stock is up and buy owen... and we have a proven goalscorer coming off the bench... people say he's injury prone and stuff but the idea here is we won't be relying on owen as a main striker and if he gets healthier and can prove that on the pitch then we all know what a healthy and sharp owen can do...

Sorry guys Owen is nothing but a treacherous dog who I personally wouldn't want selling programmes at Anfield let alone donning the shirt. He'd probably be too busy walking round his stud farm counting his money anyway.

Provided 'Boro didn't hold out for too large a fee Tunchy could be a useful squad player. We dropped points against the smaller stubborn teams this season and he is the kind of player that could possibly come off the bench an create chances.

Well the problem in all of those draws we had was that we couldnt get the ball in the back of the net, we made plenty of chances.

There isnt a game out of every one of those draws that we didnt deserve to win. Well maybe the exception of one.

He's still a good striker , heck even torres would struggle with the amount of service newcastle provide their strikers . Owen may have lost some of his pace but he can still find space , make those intelligent runs and gerrard and him had a fantastic understanding before he left . Yes he was a :censored:

for leaving and many probably hold grudges because of that. I think he would do okay here as a backup and i'm sure he would be a option for rotation and to step in if torres gets injured , plus we've got kuyt to play up there . For a free transfer i'm sure he'd be worth it , pay as you play deal perhaps for his first season to see how he goes and he plays a sufficient amount of matches i'm sure he'll get the standard contract , even stevie has come out and said that he'd love to see owen back here , now the ball is in rafa court

I'd rather owen before tuncay if we needed a goal , tuncay is a creative player but he's never been that profilic in the english league , he's usually more of a second striker and would sacrifce his position for the good of the team , i'm sure rafa would play him on the right if he signed him , rarely as a striker .

I doubt Rafa would sign the (relatively) lazy Sanli to play him on the right instead of workhouse Kuyt. I kinda hoped we'd sign Sanli, but I wouldn't on last's season's performances simply because boro went down.

I'd rather we looked at clubs coming up than ones gone down. Wolves have a fair few decent players we could look at, and since their players are all English/British bar one or two then that would help with the regulations

Keogh 23
Vokes 19
Hennessy 22 (doubt he'd come to be second choice to Reina though)
Kightly 23

And maybe one or two others worth considering. I bet Wolves would be more likely to sell their players at a reasonable price than most teams do. When they sold Joleon "Joleon Joleon Joleon Joleon, we're begging you please don't take our man, Joleon Joleon Joleon Joleon, please don't take him just because you can" Lescott to the bitters in 2006 it was for £2m rising to £5m which for an important player to them was a relative bargain. They did sell Keane to Coventry for £6m when he was very young, but they aren't the first club to want a bit much for him. They didn't hold Celtic to ransom over Lee Naylor, plenty of clubs would up the price the minute a club with any money was interested in their player. I wonder how much they could have got out of Steve Bull if they either sold him in his pomp now in the current market or in terms of goals in the Premiership now if he was in his pomp now. Can't be too many players to have played for England while playing in the second tier of English football

Some need to swallow their pride.

Owen will be free and wages aside risk free. If it does not work out we will have not lost much, and Owen could move on. This would be his last chance at a big club to resurrect his career, and he will be motivated.

Remember he has his best footballing years left, he is not old.

I wouldn,t mind Owen banging in goals with Nando.

He seems to have timed his runs better and his movement looks better aswell.

As much as i hate sherinham he was the master of having no speed, but out
thinking the oppo and Owen still has some pace about him.

He could well be the difference between winning and a draw, put it this way if he hadn't
done one and gone off to Madrid the way he did i don't think anybody would grumble about him coming back.

the problem lies with owen too. if he is still asking abt 100k per wk then it is impossible. rafa once gave folwer a 2nd chance at KOP so i wont see why not owen.
plus his 2 buddies buggering rafa all day. but owen still need to take the cut.

i guess with fowler he never turned his back on the club twice - fowler never ever wanted to leave and i reckon he would play for free . Owen is different than fowler

Yep he never wanted to leave poor guy he should have been there in Istanbul that night lifting the cup.

Owen is a different kettle of fish. He was a great striker for us but he was too infatuated with playing for England and that ultimatley led to the bad decision to move to Newcastle as he wanted to secure his place the world cup that following summer. I don't think he would be able to demand those sort of wages any more. I just hope he has some ambition left in him (from a club perspective) and want's to give back to the Liverpool fans what they deserve after he ran down his contract and left like a :censored:

But me personally I don't think Rafa would give him a look in unless it was last resort. He gave him an olive branch twice and Owen turned his back.
