He will be the man to win us some games and win us some confidence back to challenge top 4. That's the most he can do now if he gets the chance.

One of my mates who watch spanish league a lot says this maxi rodriguez is a lot like Kuyt ....steady and not that spetacular  :suspect:

Anyway....i haven't seen him play (apart from the goal he scored for argentina in the last world cup). Just hope he turns out into the winger i am hoping for (Pacy...can take on players, dribble with the ball, put in a decent cross)....

Not surprising with Rafa's choice but since it's a "free" transfer, it's still good business and risk to take.

:D

he's free so if he doesnt do well at least we didnt pay the odd bunch of millions for him.

its the 'logic' these days.

honestly though i'm elated for him to join.

though not necessarily what we've been crying out for, a natural winger should be good for our attacking options.

but i will not be surprised if we see him play right back. :D

Why do you think we pushed the move through BEFORE the match...................................?

Let's wait and see how he does, where he is played etc before writing him off or into the hall of legends. Rather than the usual newkit boards approach of writing a player off and claiming every performance is bad, or going over the top and claiming an expensive RB is worth every penny after four games. Never seems to be much middle ground on here, it's either one extreme or the other. Kuyt again looked one of our better players, I reckon Maxi might be played out on the left although a lot may depend on how injured or otherwise Gerrard and Torres are. Could be Kuyt up front, or perhaps Maxi will be pushed into service to cover Torres.........................

"Rodriguez will be a different kind of player for us and also competition for Dirk Kuyt on the right side, along with Nabil El Zhar and Yossi Benayoun.

He will give us the opportunity to manage some of the other players and rest them if necessary to keep the level of the team."

I think the clues are there, a bit more rest for Kuyt but not necessarily going to be Kuyt out, Maxi in,

Maypax will be a happy bunny, he can get his shirt now  :D

:D its a good thing we got him cause apparently he is good with set pieces and long range shots which we really need.

It's a shame he's coming into a side with absolutely no confidence, i hope we don't drag his game down.

If I was you I would not expect an spectacular player, but he is a a VERY good player. Very intelligent with an outstanding intuition to "read" what to do in each phase of the game, great help for the forwards as second line in attack, more skillful than he looks and very sharp when it comes to scoring. Since last year his performance in Atletico has been poorer than expected, but I believe he had problems with the coach. He may play on the right wing but I believe his best position is as second forward, right behind Torres, first to defend after Torres, second to shot after him - given the team you have, with Gerrard, Mascherano and Acquilani I believe he will play on the right, though... I believe he will easily get along with Gerrard in the pitch, as both are clever enough to understand the pace of each game. He also knows Mascherano well and is a good friend of Fernando Torres too ... won´t take long before he feels ok
Shame for us you have our last two captains. I am glad for you Liverpool fans, though. Good luck Maxi, he deserves it

Does it really matter how good he is ? Within a couple of weeks he'll be running around like a headless chicken or sitting on the treatment table.

I wish him all the best, though think he may have been shocked at last nights 'performance'.

We have needed quality on the right for years, if Maxi brings that I will be happy.
How much I trust Benitez anymore as far as transfers are concerned I don't know, but I welcome our new lad with hope.

Maxi will be extra motivated as he does want to be in the World Cup. If he plays at his level, you have just signed a great player

He has always looked a decent player to me so i am happy with the signing, especially given Kuyts form this season.

Any ideas how fit he is likely to be though ?
If he hasnt been playing that often in Spain he might be a bit off the pace for now.

Welcome Maxi and all the best mate

I was a little taken aback by the fact he has signed a 3.5 year deal but then I had a good think about, put 2 and 2 together and made 4...

Why would he sign for 3.5 years if his 2 mates (Mascha and Torres) had given any incling that they were going to jump ship in the summer, like many of the doubters have suggested. I see this move not only as a good move for a squad/team but an indirect statement of intent from Rafa and 2 of his main men (Mascha and Torres).

Maybe it is blind/drunken faith but that is what I take out of this deal. :)
