Lucas Leiva is the latest Liverpool player to consider an Anfield exit this summer.

Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa have already left for Real Madrid and now Lucas is weighing up his options with Corinthians interested in taking him back to Brazil.

The 22-year-old midfielder has started only 25 league games since arriving from Gremio for £6million in 2007 and had hoped to become a regular following Alonso's departure.

But the Reds have moved quickly for Roma's Alberto Aquilani and Lucas admits he wants to leave if he remains a fringe player for the Reds this season.

Interest
"You have to see what Benitez plans but the president of Corinthians already knows I am interested and what I want," he told the Sun.

Lucas is believed to have held talks with Corinthians chief Andre Sanches, who claims the negotiations "are progressing well."

Aquilani, 25, is expected to complete a £20m move to Merseyside after a medical today.

"Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world," he said. "It'll be fantastic to play with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres."

Feck sake you would think after Xabis exit maybe the lad would have some more ambition but instead he is thinking of going back to Brazil? He doesn't seem focused enough.

Offer him to Barca for...hmmmmm...£31M ??
Can't see us really getting a whole lot of cash for him though. And aren't Brasilian clubs supposedly strapped for cash anyway ?

He is quoted as saying this though on LFC.tv:

Lucas Leiva has set his sights on playing a key role in Liverpool's quest for Barclays Premier League glory.
The Brazilian midfielder has enjoyed a promising pre-season with the Reds and is confident Rafael Benitez's men will head into 09-10 as strong as ever.

"I'm feeling really good and I'm training really hard," he told Liverpoolfc.tv. "I'm looking to impress and we must see what happens.

"We are sad because Xabi has gone but hopefully whoever comes in will show quality and improve the squad."

Goals from Andriy Voronin and David Ngog clinched a 2-0 win against FC Lyn on Wednesday night and Lucas believes the Reds can build on that performance in their final pre-season encounter at home to Atletico Madrid.

"It's always good to win and the performance was much better than against Espanyol," he said.

"We still need to improve but we are moving in the right direction for the start of the Barclays Premier League.

"It will be a really good test for us when we take on Atletico Madrid. It is our last game before the season starts. We know about them because we played them last year in the Champions League.

"Hopefully we will set ourselves up for the season with a win at Anfield."

I didn't think they had the money to be honest.

But anyway Rafa commented plain and simple that no money could buy him anyway so it will take a stupid offer of 40Mil I would have thought.

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road
