I see that Real are also after yer man Defour....They'd probably get him a lot cheaper than Xabi - wouldn't be surprised if they opt for him instead. And Defour would make a helluva lot more Net each week over there than at Anfield - if he had any sense, he'd go there....

Bloody hell, I'm glad you're not the one trying to persuade him to come to us!!!  :D

TBH, mate, I'd really prefer him over Aquilani from what I've read this week....
But simple maths would suggest he's better off with them, as a non-national plying his trade there. That's all I'm saying, and it might influence his decision....

i dont think he gets a chance to decide between the two though.

if alonso stays with us, then we wont be after him.
if alonso signs for madrid, then they wont need him.

Liverpool close on Poulsen
Juve midfielder targeted by Reds boss Benitez

Liverpool close on Poulsen

Sky Sports News understands Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen.

Juve are open to the sale of the Denmark international and a number of sides have been linked with an interest in his services.

Premier League duo Fulham and Everton are among those clubs said to be admirers of the 29-year-old.

But it is believed that Rafa Benitez's Liverpool are in pole position to secure Poulsen's signature.

It is speculated that the Reds' move for Poulsen could be linked with Xabi Alonso's uncertain future, amid interest from Real Madrid.

Sly Sports

From what I can remember of him at Sevilla he wasn't too bad a player but at 29 the price would have to be right.
Not knowing too much about Defour I don't know whether he would be good enough for us or not but he does have age going for him.

All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

Hope to go thats not true.

And if it is surely it wouldnt be for much money as apparantly he is surplus to requirements at Juve anyway.
Maybe Rafa is going to sign a cheaper centre midfielder and then use the money elsewhere to sign some top drawer attacking players ?
Lets be honest uniteds centre midfield that won the league last season was hardly great was it ?

I think he`s been told he can leave so dont think he`ll cost much.
FWIW Ive aways thought he was a good player, maybe Rafa is looking for a direct replacement and a more attacking one, so we could end up with Aquilani and Poulsen.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

Well, Poulsen is no world beater but he is more than decent and will come at a reasonable price which hopefully leaves us with funds for other areas.

Poulsen was brilliant before moving to juve , he has been :censored: poor this season and a 29 we shouldn't spend more than 5 million on him

Sorry if this has already been posted but just seen this on Sky Sports

Liverpool have confirmed they have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for the sale of Xabi Alonso.

Spain international Alonso has been a long-term target of the Primera Division giants but Reds manager Rafa Benitez has been reluctant to part company with the midfielder.

However, Real appear poised to finally get their man after striking a deal with Liverpool, believed to be in the region of £30million.

Alonso is now set for a medical at Real, while Liverpool have confirmed "the terms of the deal will remain confidential and undisclosed".

The 27-year-old Alonso signed at Anfield from Real Sociedad in 2004 and has made 143 Premier League appearances for the side.

Real have embarked on an ambitious recruitment project this summer and they have already signed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka from Manchester United and AC Milan respectively.

Los Blancos have yet to bolster their central midfield and see Alonso as the ideal candidate to help complement the club's current squad.

Let the merry-go-round begin.
