Robbie keane - [EDIT: On His Way Back to Spurs]

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Dundalk » Mon Feb 02, 2009 1:23 am

Tottenham had a £15million offer for Robbie Keane accepted by Liverpool on Sunday night and he is expected to sign on at White Hart Lane on Monday.

It will complete one of the most spectacular deals of the transfer window.

Just six months after Keane’s £20.3m move north, the striker left out of Liverpool’s squad for the 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday will return, giving Spurs a £5.3m profit on the deal.

Sportsmail understands Keane’s £90,000 a week salary was proving to be problematic but a solution has been found.

Tottenham’s highest paid player is Jonathan Woodgate on £70,000 a week, although £20,000 of that is still being subsidised by his former club Middlesbrough as part of the arrangement to sell him last January.

Spurs have also asked to take highly-rated Inter Milan forward Mario Balotelli, 18, on loan.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will attempt to take Real Madrid’s Argentina striker Javier Saviola on loan.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is still coming to terms with a serious foot injury to Jermain Defoe and fears the club are back in a relegation battle following the 3-2 defeat to Bolton on Saturday.
Javier Saviola

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez could move to replace Keane with a loan swoop for Real Madrid forward Javier Saviola

Keane has told friends he was reluctant to quit Anfield after just six months, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was at his persuasive best in the final hours of the transfer window to complete the deal.

Liverpool threatened to report Redknapp to the Premier League after he spoke in glowing terms about the forward last week and relations had remained frosty.

I hope this is utter rubbish but I was reading on another site that IF the transfer goes through we have to subsidise Keanes wages by £40k a week for the next 3.5 years. Personally if there was any truth in that I would prefer we kept him.

S'only 2 mill a year S@int, small change. If we do 5 mill on the transfer and 7 on the wages, it's only 12 million quid when all said and done. Good job we've got loads of cash innit?

It might have been the eventual stay of Alonso and his great form that has kept Keane out of the team. It means that Gerrard is not needed in the midfield and takes Robbie's second striker role. This is becoming a bit of a circus, i really hope that he plays against Everton

Keane move back to Spurs rejected
By Adam Bryant

Monday, 2nd February 2009
Robbie Keane is still a Liverpool player, despite a last-minute move by Tottenham.
The London club made a £15m bid for their former striker but it was rejected by Liverpool.

An increased offer would be considered if Spurs want to sign Keane before the transfer window ends at 5pm today.

To be totally honest i think we would regret letting him go, and i know i have a Keane picture for an avatar and i have an irish background, but its a proven fact with any team that Keane performs better in the second half of the season. Now time to find me some stats!  :buttrock

Man Arshavin's deal to Arsenal supposed to have broken down.  Get rid of Keane and get Arshavin in.  When we signed Keane I said Arshavin would be better value for money as he was a better player but many said 'Keane has premiership experience'.  Well than experience has meant nothing.

0952: Where is Robbie Keane? Where isn't he more like. He seems to have been spotted everywhere. On the hard shoulder of the M6, building snowmen, in the queue at a DIY shop, in London, at the airport.... He is clearly having one very busy morning.

lmao

Arshavin is a good player, seen some vids. Still think Robbie will pull through though  :buttrock

We were mugs to have spent 20 million on him. Sorry, I'll correct that: Rick Bellend Parry was a mug to spend 20 mill on him.

To me the whole thing seems like Keane has just spat the dummy when Rafa left him out of the FA Cup match against Everton and it's continued on from there. No player is above the club and the manager. At the moment it's all just garbage speculative talk from the red tops. I'll not be surprised to see him go, but equally so if he ends up staying.

As for Arshavin; why would you want to get rid of a proven EPL player and get one that's unproven? They are similar sort of players anyway.

I dont think they are. Arshavin is a lot more creative and has the ability to actually run past players.

How much have we already paid for Keane? I thought we had only paid like 9Mil and Spurs were going to waive the rest. I hope he goes.
