Robbie keane - [EDIT: On His Way Back to Spurs]

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

We should have maybe signed a quality RM or even RB with that money and Kuyt could have been usatlised more up front, heck even NGog who Rafa favoured over Keane for the bench could have figured more.

Spurs sound out Keane

Sky Sports News sources understand Tottenham have enquired about Robbie Keane's availability at Liverpool.

Keane's future at Anfield has been the subject of intense speculation after he was left out of the squad for last weekend's FA Cup clash with Everton.

The Republic of Ireland international has endured a difficult time at Liverpool since his summer arrival from Tottenham struggling to establish himself in Rafa Benitez's plans.

Benitez has refused to confirm Keane's future and the player was only given a late run-out in Wednesday's draw with Wigan.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is thought to be in the market for a new striker and he has never hidden his admiration for Keane.

Sky Sports News sources claim Spurs have made an informal enquiry for Keane, but no bid has been tabled for the former Leeds ace

like i said i would of preffered a creative player - someone like arshavin or even quesrma (spelling ? ) not restricted to the right side but someone who could play just off the front man and float and create and give those little passes into torres .

If Rafa didn't buy him he wouldn't still be at the club now imo. Players being brought in over his head was exactly the reason why he walked out of Valencia.

Why he wanted him is still a puzzle to me. Infact it's the most baffling piece of transfer business in recent memory imo, especially as he plays in the same position as the one plyer in our squad who is undroppable.

If he goes, that really just leaves Torres as a main goal threat. What hapens if he gets injured?  I now Keane' had a torrid time but ........

i think last season i remember lots and lots of people where wanting us to play 4-4-2 and get torres a strike partner - remember having numerous arguments about it and saying that torres works better up front on his own and supporting by a creative player behind - hence the performance in the euros final . Play him up front with a partner and he looses so much space he loves - i think rafa saw keane as someone who could do that job plus also play higher up with torres .

Yes - given his age and the size of the fee it did not seem the most obvious transfer in the summer. Now it looks like we take another substantial financial hit in the summer.
But this is not the 1st forward we have signed under Benitez and then sold on is it?
2 of them are scoring fairly regularly for sides in the lower half of the table....another has just signed for a wealthy club down the road

well i can understand the reasoning behind why all three of those strikers where sold -

Cisse - just wasnt adaptable enough , lots and lots of pace just used it wrong , he would never of worked up front with someone like torres , and he wouldnt of been happy being back up

Bellamy - think was always a cheap stop gap - decent player just think he isnt good enough for a top 4 club

Crouch - well wanted him to stay and gives you an extra dimension and is a decent striker but didnt want to be back up to torres - wanted o be first choice , rafa wanted him to stay but he choose to move .

Shame we didn't keep Crouch
Maybe a bit of man management may have helped

i dont think much would of helped with crouch - he stated he wanted regular first team football to help his chances with england and he wasnt going to get it with us while we have torres

puzzles me too.

I dont buy in to any of the rumours about him being parry;s signing and all that :censored:.

one theory i heard the other day, that could be plausable (but probably isnt) is that we had the money (well £14 odd mil) to buy barry and £6 mil odd to buy a back up striker (cue those kenwyne jones rumours etc). After the barry transfer fell through, we had £20m to spend on a striker. and it was either spend it now or face the chance that it will probably get absorbed into the debt, and you might never see that sort of figure again. so rafa looked for a striker who had prem experience, scored goals and who'd come to us... and now we have robbie keane.

like i said could be slighty plausable, but probably so far removed from the truth, its on mars.

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/PremierLeague/spurs-end-interest-in-keane-14162528.html

Tottenham Hotspur have resigned themselves to not bringing Robbie Keane back to the club this month.

They were told yesterday that Liverpool want their £20.3m fee back in full if they were to let the striker go back to White Hart Lane and Spurs are not prepared to pay.

A number of different options had been previously discussed between the clubs, including deals involving Aaron Lennon and Jermaine Jenas and the cancellation of the outstanding £11m balance payable to Spurs on Keane's transfer. However, the Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was told yesterday by Liverpool that they want a straight money offer or there will be no deal.

Keane is understood to want to try to establish himself at Liverpool, despite his dispiriting start. The player is also understood to be considering the possibility that Rafael Benitez may leave in the summer which would allow him to establish himself under a different manager. Of his 22 starts for Liverpool, Keane has completed 90 minutes just five times. He has featured in just three of their last six games and his relationship with Benitez is fraught.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

See if that bold part is true, then I dare say Rafa didn't even want Keane to begin with, and if that's true, well, makes one wonder the state we're in. Coco out to f*ck!
